    Hello !

I'm very pleased with the G74SX i have on every games i have , and today i tried to install Starcraft 2 i use to play on my M11X and old desktop.

The performance are not good at all ... It " freeze " sometimes , and just go quicker to " fill " the 0.5-1sec freeze.

Seems to be a " Thottle " problem like i read on older Asus G series , but it's strange that EVERY game works great , but not SC2 no ? Throtle problem would affect every games ?

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...5-can-someone-explain-throttle-stop-me-2.html

Just read that topic , seems like the test to know if the G74 need the software just stop ... no info on this.

So , anybody here plays SC2 on G74 ? What settings did you use ? ( btw , i tried to launch Throtlestep , but i didn't understand anything ... Nvidia inspector was ok to understand , but even with the Guide in english , i'm a bit lost )

I play a lot of SC2 on my G73SW. I don't get any lag until we have 60 units on the screen going at it, but thats just about everyone.

follow the throttle stop guide and go. It is on the site here and is easy to folow as I just copied the screen shots.

You should run SC2 on medium settings max for your laptop since you have 1080p resolution. I run a mixture but keep shaders to High or Medium while other features I don't care for (Lighting, Shadows, Reflections) are off. I'm at an advantage since my screen is 1600x900.

Actually, he should be able to high. Not ultra, but high. I can do high on my G73 and it doesn'T feel any different than when i play ti on my i7-2600K/GTX570 desktop.

I'll install SC2 this afternoon on my G74 and report back if I have the same experience.

For competitive online play, you need to start the game with around 100-120fps. Once you get maxed out armies 200/200 fighting each other, the frame rate shouldn't drop below 50fps or you'll notice slowdown. I currently run with Medium Shaders, Ultra for all the CPU functionalities except Reflections, and I start the game with around 120fps on Shattered Temple and 150fps in Xelnage Caverns. However, the difference between Medium and High and Ultra isn't noticeable unless you're focusing on the terrain, and you should be focusing on playing. The difference between Low and Medium is HUGE, so you want to play on Medium if your laptop can handle it.

Maybe cause i'm using version 4.0 , but i'm a bit lost with that ThrotleStop Software =(

Is that button " Turn Off " just disable every change we made to our CPU ? Does it have to stay opened , or it still have settings when shutdown and reboot ?

I have the same issue on my G74. I had the G73 before and it didn't have the same issue.

4.00 should work great (that's what I'm using). Turn Off does disable all non-default changes to the CPU. Throttlestop's changes do stay active after you've closed it; however, the changes do not stay active after rebooting. This is why you can schedule windows to open Throttlestop automatically when you boot up.

I'll give a try at CS and TF2 , but i think i've already played TF2 , never get issue. CS:S also works great i think. CS or CSS ?

SC2 is the only game that have that problem , as i play Wow , Rift , BFBC2 , Dirt 3 , Metro 2033 , Crysis 2 ... so many games that require sometimes a powerfull computer , and it never gets down

I get the issue with SC2 only. I run it at lowest settings. The fps is at 150 and while playing I will get stutter lag for 1-2 sec. It's playable but It's hard to micro when it happens...

    CSS works fine though.

I just tried and everything is good. I loaded The Gates of Hell and tried on High settings, with half at ultra. Everything is smooth (I don't have the framerate number). The only glitch I saw is when moving the camera by putting the mouse on edges. The movement sometimes skips some frames, but it doesn't affect at all the gameplay. I have the latest NVIDIA beta drivers.

Does it happen frequently? I only played for like 10 minutes to try though.

I just tried single player campaign and it didn't occur. So it seems like it only happens against players or AI. This happens on the map Xel naga caverns

Just tried the very last mission of campaign , and a few custom maps like Bardock TD , i would say it happen once ever 1-2, sometimes 2 -3 times within 2 minutes, sometime 5 min nothing.

Really annoying. BTW , latest driver and gaming mode etc.. , i can't get the game on high. Some settings like Sharders are on high ( else the game becomes REALLY ugly , like War3 ) , but the rest is on low / off , else i won't get a ultra smooth gameplay.

Latest beta, I installed a fresh copy of Windows after my purchase thursday. I installed the latest DirectX drivers too, don't know if this may help the game or what... That's about it. I ensure I'm in High Performance too.

I've tried different settings, throttlestop, fresh copy of windows with basic drivers and also different drivers. But it doesn't fix the issue.
Weird that it worked with singleplayer campaign (played for 40 min).

The latest nvidia drivers, 285.62 fixed the issue for me!
I have tried 2 custom games versus AI on xel naga caverns without any stutter lag.

You may have had a legacy driver component issue that was fixed with the updated driver pack.

My old laptop with a 260m could get 75-80 fps all ultra, of course i was playing on 1440x900 but still, that card should not be throttling. I experienced something interesting though when i played campaign on my g71. the card was heavy overclocked and was overvolted as well, and the card did great in most all games, but when i played campaign for sc2 i experinced a slow down of sorts, it was very odd, my clocks didnt change and temps where fine, but i would go from 70's to ~50's. I lowered my clocks and it fixed the problem, not sure if this will help you but its wroth a try i suppose. try to set your gpu to stock and try it out.

The problem is that happens at stock & overclock.

I must say that i overclock with Nvidia inspector , so i have to launch it everytime , and i always forget. The only game i used to launch it everytime was BF3 Beta, else stock values are more than enough for todays games ...

Downloading the 285.62 , hope it will fix it :D

I'm also having this problem, even with all settings set to low and the CPU throttle confirmed as being off (Bios mod).

I'm putting it down to the i7 Turbo Boost. When it kicks in it lags, then reverts back to normal.

Once I 'force' permanent Turbo Boost in game, via something like 4v4 or 8man FFA with huge battles going off everywhere, I never seem to get any of these CPU lag spikes as it's fixed on Turbo.

During low setting 1v1s it's all over the place as it's undecided if it needs to boost or not. Compromising with the graphics settings makes no difference, at all.

    I'm running on the 2760QM.

People trying this out should activate the FPS counter by pressing ctrl-alt-f. I swear, you will see the frames drop to 0 then rise back up to 59/60.

    v-sync on.

I believe the earlier RoG models could force the turbo boost mode to being on permanently... We don't have this with the G74 for some crazy reason, so I might run some processor heavy applications in the background in order to stop the CPU from going 'OC > 'normal' > 'OC' > 'normal' etc etc.

Well, I got rid of 90% of the stuttering with a totally clean install of the latest whql nvidia drivers by uninstaling first, then wiping all traces with Driversweep. When it comes to reinstallation DE-CHECK the nvidia audio driver, hell, just leave the graphics driver checked and leave out all that other bloatware.

I'm on Realtek audio so I also reduced my system sound quality and also the in-game sound. The only time I get stutter now is by blowing the hell out of bases.
