First, I want to thank everyone who has helped out with the many issues the g73jh used to have. This will probably be my final post for a while as I haven't been coming online for a while.

I'm looing for a good SSD for my laptop. Any suggestions?

Get one thats not SATA III, since JH doesn't support it.

Thats not a problem because Sata III is backward compatible.
The limit will be substained read speed of 270MB/s. But when do you need this?

thx guys. I'm looking for one that has at least 120gb of space for my g73. I'll probably buy one this week.

    @ Fatal1tyBD is there a Intel 320 120gb version?

Nice, yeah my order didnt ship out last night and I stumbled upon the Samsung 470 Series, seems it has some impressive writes and low idle power draw. Samsung is supposed to be about as reliable as Intel, so I went ahead and canceled it and going with the samsung now.

Its $220, so for anybody else looking, seems like a good SSD to get as well. Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 470 Series MZ-5PA128/US 2.5" 128GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Edit Amazon has it for $220 as well, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Z6Q8Y8/ref=cm_sw_su_dp

Just saying it'll be kinda a waste, since there's always a premium charged for the SATA III ones compared to SATA II.

aight, my SSD just arrived like 15 minutes ago. I'm making a backup image file so I can load it on my SSD.

Can't wait! Back up is taking forever!!!

That sure did come quick, I'm going to do a fresh install when I get my SSD tomorrow.

Post up some screenies of crystalmark if you dont mind. I'll do same once I have the 470. It's been pretty tough to find exact benches/info on the intel 320 120gb and the 470 128gb ones.

I got a new OCZ Vertex 2 240gb for 300$ on Kijiji, took me about a week on 2-3 times a day hunting for it but when somebody listed it i bought it and saved almost 200$. Look at my speeds in my signature...pretty awesome

    done.

also, intel made things very convinent. You can download a SSD migrator from their site. It Clones Your C partition onto your SSD and makes the SSD the primary drive. Pure win, fast and easy. Best to still make a backup on external drive.

Here are my specs from crystalmark

    https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_...dwzRmckU1NI/s1280/capture_14042011_014343.jpg

This is my first SSD so I can't give a real review but there seems to be a huge difference between Read/Write Speeds. Write speed is still much better then my normal hardrive but its a little disapointing. I have latest firmware as well. Is this normal for an SSD? I do have little space on the SSD remaining though thanks to all my programs.

Write speed (took out the drive with my HD videos so can't test yet) from C drive to C drive (same drive) I saw 330mb/s in an instant. Tomorrow afternoon after classes, I'll just copy a huge file from C to C to see what kinds of write speeds we get.

Either way, start up time is insanly fast, all my programs open up super fast (3ds max takes like 18 seconds to open compared to the normal minute or so.) and light programs like firefox, ie, dl managers, Skype, etc opens up in 1 second or less.

    awesome.

@ polish_pat, those specs are awesome man o_O

@ svl7 thx for the links. I'll look those over when I get the chance.

update - i'll post again after I tweaked my SSD from the links svl7 gave me.

Like I've been saying, don't do 5x 1GB benchmarks, that's like writing over 100GB+ to your SSD in a mere 5minutes, severely degrading the life of the SSD by days-weeks.

    Like you said? Where?

Either way, its a benchmark, its no different from using furmark I guess. But there is a 3 year warinty on this thing :)

I feel the same way. You hear all the hype, then you get one and ... eh. Kinda overhyped.

Well, the point of SSDs is to have insanely fast Random Read/Write (especially the 4KB R/W), these occur once every few nanoseconds during normal OS operations. It helps speed up the system in general.

You need to run the test with 00 or FF, not with random. I forget which menu that's under, but it's the data type.
