I have a ASUS G51jx with a Momentus 300gb HDD in it and I want to put a SSD drive in. I am not to concerned about the size of the SSD Drive as all my data is stored on a external.
I want the extra speed from a SSD but dont have alot of cash to drop on one. I have found a few used ones on Craigslist but I am trying to get some input from fellow gamers and SSD owners.
Thanks

I'm using a Vertex 2. Used it in my G60JX and my new G73JH. Works like a charm, ridiculously fast, it's just a bad- SSD.
-
My Samsung 470 128gb SSD has been working great, has some incredibly fast write speeds, and I've yet to have any probs.
-
Yup, I've got a sandforce-1200 drive. It's nice.
-
Dropped a Vertex 2 60GB in my JH and it's wonderful. I love how quiet the machine gets when the HDD spins down because it only gets used for games now.
I didn't bother with any of the crazy chipset and power state tweaks. Just left everything stock. -
I originally planned on getting the c300 but ultimately decided on the Intel 510. For me, reliability is the most important. Fast access only matters if it works. Intel is #1 in reliability.
-
Yeah, but in a non-SandyBridge notebook I would have taken a 320 instead. The 25nm flash in the 320 shouldn't be a problem like in the faking OCZ's.
-
I'd say Vertex 3.
-
Nice one but IMO overkill.
-
SSD is overkill for regular consumer to begin with. If you're going for overkill, why not get the best?
-
Because it is too expansive and you don't even have an advantage of this beast because of SataII limit.
OK. You can raid them (if avail.) and feel something growing in your pants.

Why are people compelled to ask any general computer related questions in the forum section of their laptop brand and not the section specifically made for these types of questions?

But if that's the case, then Crucial C300, or even a Vertex 2 should be fine. -
SataII limit at 4K would be nice
I mean substained speed. Look at the other graphs (seq. R/W).
Those tests were also made on a highperf desktop rig. Can't always compare to a energy saving mobile platform. -
To be honest, unless you're using the SSD for storage purposes, or you constantly transfer files that are enormous, sequential read/write basically means nothing. People buy SSD because of the random read / write, and in that case, Vertex 3's performance is not too badly hampered by the SATA II limitation.
But of course, there's really no point in paying $300 if you can't use 100% of its potential. -
That means I'm constantly opening and closing applications all day long, along with the OS constantly accessing the system drive in the background.
Having an SSD as my system drive greatly improves the user experience. Now any time I need to work someone else's machine that "only" has a 7200 RPM mechanical system drive, it feels SO sluggish.
Is an SSD required? No way. Sure is nice though. And it's silent and uses way less energy (think green! LOL). -
Yeah, some people only do playing games.
If a tool don't give them some more fps, it isn't worthful. Haha -
I think only those who has used a SSD would truly appreciate why it is definitely worth it to pay the extra over the HDD.
I wouldn't believe at first too, until I got the Intel X-25. Now I refuse to use HDD for my system drive.
SSD recomendation??
