I know with the Sandy Bridge recall, some laptops might have issues. However, I wanted to know if you guys think it's safe to "accept" a G73SW-XT1.

Are the problems gone from it? I don't want another problem prone, issue plagued G73JH.

    Thanks!

Yup. Asus will replace it, there's a thing on their support page about it.

Even if you get stuck with a bum unit, it only affects the DVD drive.

The worst issue SW models have now is throttling, which while most ppl dont seem to care, it does affect GTA4. Though, plus side is running a simple program called Throttlestop 3.0 just once on boot stops the throttling until you reboot. Still awaiting for an official response from Asus which with not many SW owners interested in this matter, it seems it will certainly be a while before we see one, if we ever do.

I have the G73SW-XT1 from Tiger Direct Markham, Ontario store which I bought 3 wks. ago. It has the "New Revision, Certified Design" sticker.

I've been playing The Witcher 2 at Medium setting with a few adjustments at native res. of 1920x1080. With Witcher 2 at this setting, the SW-XT1 is quiet, cool, smooth and graphic detail is nice.

Low setting (still nice graphics and faster @ 1920x1080).

Been playing for 3 days now, great game, really enjoying, same as I did with Witcher 1 yrs. ago.

Ok so the "New Revision, Certified Design" is the sticker to look for.

Are there any complaints about the build? I know G73JH had A TON of issues, wondering if they were worked out by the time the SW came out. Like the keyboard lag, touchpad issues, any video issues?

Nope, SW seems to be good on all those fronts. I've yet to have any probs like that, and haven't read any complaining about it.

Edit: wow, that XN2 price of $1250 is incredibly good, I wonder if it will stay priced like that, or even if its a price mistake. If it's not and it never goes up, BB model is history, absolutely no reason to even consider it.

Your notebook should be able to handle the game at Ultra. Switch off "Ubersampling" (which is buggy and makes the game to be very slow even on quite powerful systems) and install the 275.27 drivers, and then try again :p You will be amazed.

I've seen many people on way worse machines flawlessly playing at High after they got rid of Ubersampling. Anyway, the patch 1.1 is on its way to address this one and other problems (of which W2 is apparently full).

    Good luck!

I'm still using 270.61 driver playing Witcher 2. Granted I'm at Medium setting, it's still comparable to High setting interms of graphic detail. Original driver was 260 that came when I bought the laptop.

I've had 275 driver for a few days now, I was just lazy to install it for 270 driver is good enough. But many seem to say that there's a big difference between 275 and 270.

I've had ubersampling disabled even before I started playing with medium setting with my adjustments, and the graphic detail is crisp yet very, very playable, smooth, cool and quiet. I've repeated fights at the gate openning for King Foltest (tough fights) just to test my skills plus I enjoy using Aardi power while sword fighting.

I've never had a crash issue even loading again and again and again during the difficult fist fight at Flotsam (saving Dandellion from hanging). I played Fallout New Vegas again just last week, and auto detect was Ultra High setting and that's how I played the whole game and finished just a week ago.

I might try 275 driver since Nvidia mentioned witcher 2 reguarding that driver.

My SW-XT1 driver cd doesn't have the complete ATK drivers. When deleting bloatware geek games, the keyboard light disappears and ATK package from the cd driver wasn't enough to keep it working again. I have to use the cd driver ATK package, then the ATK driver from ASUS site. All lights working normal after that.

It took me a few days figuring out this laptop when I first got it, but I was able to completely clean the system of bloats without resorting for a fresh Windows 7 install. I'm very pleased now with this laptop. Highly recommended.

That xn1 price from newegg is a steal for $1,250 wow. The A1 is $600 more and the only difference is bag/mouse and blu ray.

I was gonna get ASUS N53SV-XV1 from Amazon USA, until a few days ago it was yanked by Amazon mysteriously (I don't want to buy from NewEgg cuz I have to pay tax). Now, I am looking around myself for another Asus, the newer N-series coming out seems to not have Full HD resolution from what I read on. So I might either get a G-seres, like the new G53SX that should be coming out *soon*? Or G74? Not sure.

I never realized how easy the fist fights are in Witcher 2 (at Laredo's place), silly me. By the way I paid $1499 for my G73SW-XT1 (certified/revised). No complaints though. $1250 would be a steal for a G73 SW revised Sandy bridge design, but no blu-ray?
