I'm not sure how to fix this.

When I'm playing a game, it'll sometimes randomly freeze for a little while. The screen will then go blank, sometimes it'll show my desktop before the game resumes normal play.

I know it has something to do with the graphics card cause a few times I've seen a note that says "Graphics card has crashed but has recovered itself." or something along those lines. I hope something can be fixed before any major damage happens.

    I have a G73JH OC to 800/1100.
    Driver version 11.5
    Bios version 213
    vBios 12.020.000.032.038352

according to CCC it's stable. When I let CCC do my OC, it said it could go up to 860, but that seemed to high so I dialed it back down to 800.

Same here. But as long as I don't overclock my 5870m too much (770/1080) then it doesn't happen as often. I think it's because it ran too hot? I don't know... Some games are fine, some aren't. Bottom line - try lowering your clocks.

All right. I'll lower my clocks and see if that fixes it. Any other possibilities?

I don't think it's overheating as I run afterburner in game so I can monitor my temps. I also have hwinfo32 running to log my top temps. None of the 4 gpu temps in hwinfo32 have hit 99oC.

well, that seems to be the problem, makimo. I lowered my oc to 780/1090 and haven't encountered a freeze yet.

Glad to be of service :) Yeah me too, GPU-Z shows temps of around 87c if I go 800/1100, the screen continuously hangs. Once I lower the speed, it stabilizes even though the temp is the same. I wonder why... I don't see this complain on other laptop brands with their 5870m... Asus and their stupid propriety design for their 5870m, perhaps... ;)
