    Hello,

The quality of the display is one of the most important things of a laptop for me. As I read below, G73SW-TZ083V has high quality Hannstar HSD173PUW1 model screen which gives superb contrast ratio, brightness and vivid colors:

However, I'm planning to buy cheaper G73SW XA1 model which doesn't have a blu ray drive and 1 Tb hard disk compared to the above model.

Does this cheaper model (Xa1) also have high quality Hannstar HSD173PUW1 display?

    Thanks.

Yup, it either has the hannstar or the CMO panel. Though, while the hannstar has good contrast, brightness and colors. It has pretty horrid backlight bleed on the center top and center bottom.

If backlight bleed isnt much of a bother for ya, then you'll be fine. I got the CMO in my XA1 and its way better, even in the contrast ratio department, blacks look much more black, and it has pretty much no backlight bleed.

Either way, if has a FHD panel, you'll most likely get hannstar no matter what the model it is. Though, I am curious if the XA1 is still shipping with the CMO panels as I've yet to hear from any more buyers after the first batch if they too got a CMO or not.

Either way, just thought I'd warn ya, my JH model had the hannstar and I hated the backlight bleed and was one of the major reasons I ended up sending it back. I did try for another, and the backlight bleed was still there, but not as bad as the first. None the less, I've just come to realize that all hannstar panels, even in the sagers laptops that use it, have backlight bleed problems.

    Thanks for the reply dkillone.

How about g73sw-bst6? (The cheapest model I could find) It doesn't have full Hd screen (it has just 1600*900). Does it have either Hanstar or CMO do you know?

Should have the AUO or the LG Phillips, AUO being the most likely and that panel has horrid viewing angles and contrast/the worst. Though, a few owners of the AUO said after tweaking the color settings it looks better.

I've really only had the chance to see both panels at the store, so really can't say much other than it wont be as high quality as the FHD panels.

While the Hannstar does have some pretty horrid backlight bleed, the overall quality is still that much better than the 1600x900 LCDs found in the BB models.

Also, I wouldnt get the BST6 just based on fact it has the gimped GTX460m. Only comes with 1gig vs 1.5(which isnt the prob) and only a 128bit bus vs the 192 which drops the total bus bandwidth by 20gigs.

Of course, I'd still recommend the XA1 as after BB taxes you'll end up spending same amount plus Amazon is great with replacements and returns if you do end up having probs.

Off topic but where can you get an XA-1 with 1TB HDD space?

Winkey + R>>type, devmgmt.msc>>Monitors>>doble-click Generic PnP>>Details>>scroll down to Hardware Ids

In the white box, you'll see CMO1726, or HSD173PUW1 or w/e the panel it is. If its not those, just google what is says and you'll usually find results.

Only amazon has the XA1 model specifically, so if you wanted a 1tb hdd, you would just add it in yourself.
Though, if you are referring to the A1 model, it has 2 500gb to equal 1tb in space.

The power connector, the side which connects to the laptop, is it straight or is it L-shaped?

Hrm, srry, but no experience with the AUO, here is a good readin link about it though.

Seems it is a better panel than the hannstar, color/brightness. However, quadzilla had some backlight bleed, and another had stuck/dead pixel problem.

So I guess you will have to take a gamble, I'd say if its only like only 30 more or something, I'd go for it. If not, since you're buying from xotic, there should be a matte screen option as well.

Though, I have no clue what panel that is, unless its the 120hz matte which has been all LG panels.

Unless the screen is matte, I wouldn't bother swapping it out. I have units here with both panels, and they're nice.

I haven't noticed anything obvious between the quality of the Hannstar and the CMO panels. They even have a similar blue slant in the color spectrum. :)

If you want to use the panel for work, then yeah, a matte screen would be optimal, to alleviate glare. That would be worthwhile for an upgrade.
