http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...eplacing-screen-g73jh-bst7-2.html#post8348370 . I was ready to order from screencounty until I read this post. Has anyone ordered a replacement recently and been happy with it? I will settle for Matte only if there are no good glossy available. I have hannstar now (~3 yrs old)... The display is fine via HDMI or VGA to TV. I have wanted to replace it for a while (It had a single vertical line for over 1 year) I did take it apart and reseated the cable but this did not help
Happy Holidays to all!
I ended up with this panel http://www.panelook.com/B173HW01 V4_AUO_17.3_LCM_parameter_738.html and am very happy with it.

If you want to guarantee a good panel go for the 90% gamut auo panel.
Laptopscreen.com were always good to me as a personal customer (PNB has no connection to them) -
Thank you very much for the rapid response. The G73 is from PNB and has served me well. But your outstanding support over the years has been amazing. Take care and have a great holiday season

Awww that's kind of you to say
Merry christmas to you.
I hope you get the panel you need. -
Hey Josea; I got my glossy hd screen from laptopscreen.com It has a 3 yr. warranty. It cost about $100. I've been very happy with it. It was a direct replacement fit. (no mods required) It was another Hannstar, but they are SUPPOSED to be good screens. I think our batch got defective inverters for whatever reason. I've saved my old screen just for parts. Good luck!

Thanks a lot Billyray, did you get yours directly from ASUS? Did you have any trouble removing the plastic housing around the screen? I followed a video that made it look easy but I am afraid I will break it (I am a SW guy not HW). I called a local shop and they want $150 do replace it (AND I have to supply the new cable and panel - UGH). Sorry to go on and on but I read it is a good idea to replace the cable and panel ... is $20 US a fair price for the cable?

He was saying is was from laptopscreen.com, you do have to be careful with the plastic.

I didn't buy the cable or anything else. I followed the online tutorial here. I was very careful of course. I took my time. I carefully marked all of the screws and hardware and taped them to a sheet of paper in the order I was taking them off. Everything disassembled just like the link says. But there is no modification needed if you get the Hannstar replacement screen. I was very careful removing the tape and disconnecting the connectors. I used magnifying glasses to see what I was doing since everything is so small. You might need some good tools like hemostats and tiny screwdrivers. Everything went back together just fine. the bezel for the screen was no problem, but there are lots and lots of microscopic screws which you have to be very careful to save and notate where they are used. I didn't have a single screw left over when I was done (nor did I lack for any.) I think just taking it slow and careful is the main thing. All together it took me about 2 or so hours to do. But I haven't had a single issue since doing the job. My greatest fear would be taking the keyboard/touchpad part of the laptop apart. I would recommend doing the screen replacement, even if you are a young padawan. I know some day I'll have to take everything apart just to change the CMOS battery.
Hopefully that will last about 10 or more years...

Mostly you just have to be very gentle with things like cable clipsnand the clios holding plastic together when taking a notebook apart.

Amazing service from laptopscreen, Ordered on 12/30 - received early 1/2 (Thank god FEDEX). I did not pay for premium shipping. I ended up removing the side rails, putting in the 8 screws then reseating that assembly. I do notice 1 stuck pixel. On a black background it is a tiny blue dot similar to this in lower left quadrant

I have an Acer netbook with one stuck blue pixel. It's been like that almost from the time I bought it. I guess you have to decide whether you can live with that or not, or send it back for replacement.
But congrats on getting your G73 ROG'in again!!

There's an industry standard rule about this therefore a dead pixel may not be granted for a replacement screen.
I think it's not worth it to do repair yourself too since it's a Netbook.

Interesting info. I was never that bothered with the dead pixel on my netbook. But Josea just replaced a lcd screen so I assumed that would be reason enough to exchange if it was really bothersome.
-
Actually in the fine print (which I read ahead of time) is they will replace it but you pay to ship... like you BillyRay I can live with 1, it is about the size of a period
Thanks again to all who helped me through this! -
I also have 19" NEC desktop monitor that has several bad pixels. I bought it in '07 refurbished, so it always had them since then. One thing I've noticed is they never got worse, and they only show up on certain backgrounds. So they're not that bothersome.

Dead pixels that are a normal defect don't normally get worse, it's when there is another underlying issue that you get more problems and at that point it's a warranty replacement.
