I purchased a SSD to replace my 500GB drive in my best buy model. I wanted to put the 500GB drive in the second slot, and the SSD in the first. Well, it seems that regardless of which drive is in the second slot, the second slot does not function. Also, drives in the first slot do not appear unless I go in to the BIOS, flip AHCI to IDE, and then reboot. It'll be detected then, and I can flip the switch back to AHCI.

Regardless of what I do, though, I cannot seem to get any drive in any configuration to function in the second drive bay. Is my laptop broken, or is this a "feature" of the best buy model?

Sounds like your laptop is broken, I am on my second G73 Best Buy model, the first was replaced due to lost keyboard lights, and both have worked just fine with two hard drives. I just put the second hard drive in the second bay, booted into Windows and there it was.

Reset the bios by loading defaults and rebooting. The second drive will be visible upon reboot.

    Cheers,
