So I hope asus repairs or does right by my g50 I had to send it in because the VGA LCD cable was bugged or the card was shot because of nasty display issues where black colors would start flashing as red pixels and windows and icons developed pixel shading to the right. Also sent it in because of overheating issues. The machine got up to 212 degrees farenheit before undervolting to cool down, this really bugs me because this happened and it warped the case at the exhaust vent and that heat was absorbed into the metal ring around the fan assembly and gave me a pretty nasty burn. Anyone else have an issue like that? Hoping to get my laptop back soon.

Did you buy the G50VT refurbished? How long have you had it? I'm curious because I just bought mine used. I haven't game yet so don't know how high the temperatures will go. Good luck getting it back fixed.

Don't wait to test it, i just bougt a g50vt refurbished too (from geeks.com) and my temps where all messed up, infact it turns out that my refurbished wasn't even refurbished but just recycled (the heatsink was clogged with smokers tar/dust)..

    mine was over heating badly..

i have since sent mine in and received it back and it works great, they replaced the motherboard and thermal unit (HSF)..

remember you only have a 3 month warrant on that refurb, you need to put it through the testing paces before you actually sit down and start using it.

My suggestion is to grab Furmark and GPU-Z or HWMonitor, run furmark and log the temperatures.. then grab 3dmark vantage and give it a good test and make sure the numbers are coming out to what they are suppose to be.

I guess I was lucky. I also bought my G50V refurbished. When I got mine it was like new. No scratches, battery was at 99% capacity, CPU idled at 38C, GPU idled at 42C. Only thing was the DVD drive made a bit too much noise.

I bought it brand new when it first came out, (two years ago almost) The overheating started about 6 months into purchase but I depend on having my laptop for school (electrical engineering computer science) so I couldn't find time to send it in. The temps can get pretty high, the thermal compound they use to mount the heatsink is garbage it was a cut and stick thermal insulator. Talk to a support agent and see if you can replace the thermal compound with aftermarket AS7 or your choice. These laptops had heating issues before they were released and they had to redesign the fan system and a lot of them still run hot.

Bump because I have a question for people who have sent their notebooks in for repair to asus. How soon after your shipment was marked as delivered through fed ex did Asus update your RMA ticket. My laptop was said to have been delivered last thursday and the RMA status still says they haven't recieved the machine, also under the RMA status one of the digits in the SN is turned into a Red X is that normal?
