For your G73? If so it is still not worth it. That desktop is much faster than the G73, but do you want a desktop? Plus that desktop is already getting dated and for all it has, not worth that much.

The fact he is trying to trade you shows that he knows its going to be a better deal for him to get your perfectly working JH model.

I said it wasn't worth it last time and will again, desktops are a lot cheaper to build than the worth of a laptop and even if it wasn't I would say no and that has nothing to do with the fact that I would fight my way through a cage of lions to keep my bad boy laptop :D

In terms of sheer power, worth it..
so if you don't mind sacrificing the portability, go for it.. you haven't mentioned a monitor in the details so ill assume you're fine with buying a new one.. coz a good one can be a little expensive..

I think a perfectly working G73JH still has a great value (and you have a 820qm if I'm right). I great desktop can be build for a reasonable price today. My friend just got a HAF X case, with a gtx 560 ti, 6 gb ram triple channel, i7-2600k, H2O cooling and more.... for about 1300-1400$. I bought my G73JH maybe 10 months ago for almost 2000$.

The system you are talking about is good, but IMO it's some Alienware crap :) At least it's trade, you don't have to pay the full stupid Alienware price.... but if I compare to my friend's system, a 2600k is way better than the 920, but the Aliwenware has two 5870's. I think you should check how much you could sell your laptop and build a new system like you want it, with the money.

"10char" is what people say when they can't be bothered to type a complete sentence. 10 characters is the smallest amount of characters you can type in a reply. :p

Do you really need to change your system right now? Your friend seems to really want your G73JH, but you, do you really want to change it?

The fact you need to keep asking questions about it and cant decide is more than enough reason to stay put with what you have.

There is bound to be something go wrong with the desktop, you go into major regret mode and ask for your laptop back in which your friend refuses to give it back, an argument ensues and you two fall out.

Your left without your bribing mate and have no working computer.

EDIT:...and you will be banished from the forum. :p hahaha.

Besides, I'd rather spend $600 for dual 6970's with aftermarket fans

If you want a desktop, do it.

If you prefer a laptop, don't.

If you're not sure, your current setup is great. Chances are you'll just replace the desktop (rather than upgrade it) ... and the same goes for your laptop. So upgradeability isn't really a question either.

Remember, you'll ALWAYS get more power from a desktop than from a laptop at an equivalent price.

Don't do it. The underlying logic is simple: you wanted a gaming laptop. If you were looking for a gaming desktop, you wouldn't go out and shell out $1300 for a gaming laptop when you can get a very good performing desktop for the same price.

Personally I don't think Alienware is really that worth it. The only differences between an Alienware desktop and a custom made desktop are the case, the desktop background, outrageous pricing, and horrendous customer service.
