I need a new laptop, as my MSI GT735's screen frame is literally FALLLING apart.
I wanted to get one of the Asus, but the issues scare me.
And I need it soon and newegg has billmelater, and RMA will take too long.

    Should I bother?

I would buy one in the market place from this website, I believe a guys selling one cheaper than what a refurb would cost and he got it at bestbuy. Worst case scenario is you have to do a repaste otherwise its not that bad.

If you liked your MSI, take a look at an MSI with the HD5870M. The performance will be identical if you pair it with a i7 720QM and frankly, the MSI vBios is much better than the G73jh's.

    I hate MSI.
After like 2 months it started to fall apart.
Now the back of the screen cover is about to break off.

Strange I've owned a few Mai laptops and never had any issues. Kind of wondered if the amd CPU equipped models where cheaper quality though.

the only issue with GX660R is screen is not good... Have you looked at Sager? The only issue is that you'll have to pay the whole price at once... they'll be cheaper , have better warranty and better quality.. have a look at Sager NP8690...

the gx660r really is a great laptop from what I've heard. The biggest issue with it is the terrible screen.

a bad screen is reason alone not to get it.
After my experience with MSI, I'd rather avoid.

My A1 had its fair share of issues, but there is a new vbios out (i don't know if it is included by default on the new machines) and there are new realtek drivers for audio and Asus has promised an official fix for almost everything else in the near future. That is not to say that 95% of the problems can't be easily fixed (PSOD is that 5%). Honestly, I would go for it. Its a great machine (with a great screen) and just about everything is fixed and in my opinion, the price is definitely right.

Edit: sorry for the rambling nature of that post. Been up waaay too long.

    Thanks man!
Real nice to hear some great things.

Anyone get one just recently to confirm if it's updated by default?

wait, the one I actually meant was the G73JH-X1 got them so confused.
Now I am completely lost @_@

Ugh this time it was an accident

Its a luck of the draw.
I had 6 RMAs (1 keyboard replacement, 5 GPU replacements) so far and im still stuck with missing keystrokes (which still has no solution and by the poll that was posted, 60% users voted they have it) and GSODs if using the Asus vBios (the newest one that was supposed to solve it), but with MSIs it works perfectly fine (but i loose HDMI and VGA).
Many people are reporting a completely problem free laptop though...

    Pick your poison...
