If you are comfortable doing that, it is the best way to ensure optimal, trouble-free performance of your new laptop.

On the other hand, not everyone is comfortable with it or has the basic knowledge to do it properly ("driver? what's a driver?" where does it go?)..... In these cases, owners can go a long way toward a more-stable, better-performing machine by simply uninstalling all that bloatware.

Yes by definition a clean install will remove all asus related applications, if you want lighted keyboard you have to install an ASUS app. I removed a few programs such as Asus update, splendid, control deck, etc, disabled nearly everything starting up in MSconfig and have had minimal issues with mine in 18 + months of nearly daily use. A clean install is not a panacea.

I used to do clean installs with 98/XP, but with windows7 I have found that simply uninstalling the asus applications you don't want, updating drivers, checking msconfig, then running a good cleanup utility like ccleaner for the registry, you get a great result.

There is a good guide floating round here somewhere describing what all the ASUS utilities do, I used it when I got my G73JH (I expect the SW comes with much the same).

Why not try a good cleanup first, and if you are happy with the results save the new install for when you upgrade to a SSD hard drive (an essential upgrade one you are used to them on laptops!).

The bloatware guide is stickied in the main Asus section, easy to find.
