    Should I get the G74SX-XC1, or G74SX-XR1?

I am in the market for a new laptop, since my G71G is failing (the monitor is fluttering, flickering and has static from time to time).

My current choices within my price range are for the XC1, and the XR1. XR1 is looking good because of the price, $100 cheaper than the XC1. However, the only thing the XR1 has over the XC1 is the amount of RAM...

Which one would you guys suggest that I buy, and for what reasons?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mumps,
It looks like the XC1 is identical to the XR1 for the most part, just made specifically for Canada.

Those models will probably be very similar, if the XR1 is $100 less and and the only difference is the RAM the XR1 would be the best bet. You can just add the RAM with the $100 savings.

Doing some more research I came up with the following diferences.

RAM: Cheaper model 12GB, Expensive model 8GB.
    HDD: Cheaper model 640GB 5400rpm, Expensive model 750GB 7200rpm.
Optical Drive: Cheaper Super-multi DVD, Expensive Blu-ray/DVD Combo.

So... the price difference seems warrented. Faster/bigger harddrive, + Blu-ray. Hmm... Still unsure. A RAM upgrade on the expensive unit, up to 16GB will cost $50, which isn't bad at all.

if all that difference for $100 you should get the more expensive one IMO.
A pair of 8GB RAM is $40-50, a bluray drive is $100 (there used to be one for 79.99 on newegg but not anymore) and 7200RPM is better than 5400RPM, not SSD better but its better nonetheless.

Yeah, the more I look at the cheaper model, the more I want the more expensive one. For only $100, I am getting my moneys worth. Besides, if I buy the more expensive one, I will be supporting a local Computer store that me, and all the other nerds, techies and gamers in my city love so much :D
