But...how about buying a non-asus assembled ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5870 ? and putting that in,since, from what I understand from Hellcry's posts its the weak build done by Asus themselves which are causing the problems

Not that I'm aware. Would be a good experiment though.

Cant be done since Asus made sure noone does that by using a reverse MXM slot so no other standard MXM GPU will fit. Theyre the only manufacturer that thought of something bizzare as that.
Its not a stupid question though, its pretty reasonable and i though about it myself until i remembered that little detail...

hmmm... I wonder if enough of us (as you guys are already working on) get on this, ATi would be interested in cutting us a deal of some sorts. like say... I dunno 10-20k people who would be interested in a non-asus card ? isn't that enough to produce a batch ?
I'm sorry I'm not skilled enough about computers is this reversed-MXM slot thing an Asus copyright or something ? preventing others from being able to manufacture them without facing lawsuits ?
if so,I guess it's a longer run,but at some point I'm sure the pressure would manage to squeeze out a deal with both them and ATi ?
    Dunno...just brainstorming

But what do you folks think ? will this make the GSOD and perhaps VSOD ? issues go away ?

Cant say for sure, but its a fact that the other laptop brands (Clevo/Dell/MSI) arent having any issues with their Mobility 5870.

I see,well...guess there's nothing else to do than to sit and wait, for the ones who will keep an eye on this matter and not just buy another pc and forget about the whole ordeal

A tech told me its reversed so i didnt really look into it any further, since i remember all the old models had a reversed slot and just assumed he is correct.
I didnt bother to compare when i was replacing mine and i dont really remember how the connector on the Asus card looked. Anyone got a picture of just the Asus GPU so connectors are visible?
I got one with both cards side to side so i can tell you the chips and coils are placed similarly enough to be cooled properly, but sadly the Asus card is in the motherboard so i cant compare the connectors.

I don't understand whats this reversed mean? The size of the VGA is not the standard size or the connector is different? (or both)

The Asus card is wider with less layers, so it wont physically fit into any other laptop, but a narrower card such as a MSI will fit into the G73JH (although youll only be able to screw it down with 1 screw but that should be enough), but i dont know if the connectors are the same or not - where that hole in the connector side is whats supposed to be different.
