Not 1600x900, but 1920x1080 even works like a dream.

Normal shadows, 750/1050, no AA, everything maxed at a constant 45fps.

I'm sure some of you with insane clocks will see even better results. Can't wait for my physical copy to arrive :)

Nope he is running a G73 JH if I remember him correctly, and his overclocks confirm it.

This is wonderful news :) with my XM I intend to destroy all of the Dragons in a few hours time :D

I just checked the RMA status of my G73 and it's got a tracking number so I'll be wearing out Skyrim in a few days! Tamriel here I come!

My G73 just froze 3 times in a row, once browsing the web, and the other two at start up  IT BETTER NOT GO OUT ON ME, I have an online midterm in thirty minutes, then skyrim tonight :(

    EDIT: Make that four times...

    Run a HDD check pronto.

Its about time you upgraded to an SSD anyway mate those mechanical are rigged for failure.

I was so glad when mine died the upgrade to SSD was like vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce!

Thats the problem, I have no time right now! :( my midterm is in about 12 minutes, otherwise I would run a chkdsk /f FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I swear, I have the best luck. I contemplated getting an SSD just a little but ago (as you may remember), that money ended up going towards other things, like getting my sister Skyrim for her Birthday...

EDIT: Acronis says both disks are healthy...just in case its the adapter (my relatively new TARGUS :( ) im going to run on quiet office mode to consume little power.

I was considering a netbook earlier but then realised I would be able to pic it up and throw it across the room...I decided against it :D

Lol I gotcha, almost did that to my 1015PN when I was first dual booting linux.

And its funny, I considered bringing my Transformer w/ keyboard today instead of my G73, but I thought my G73 would give me fewer problems for the midterm -___-

I just want to go to sleep and wake up in...6 hours now lol Ive been watching all of the videos over again; and good friend of mine who writes all sorts of gaming (and accessory) reviews has had it for half a week now.

G73SW (i5 2410M, 460M,GB RAM) -all maxed out, 8xAA, 16xAF about 25-35 FPS in first 10 minute gameplay.. I´ll turn off AA for better FPS.

Watch out for a failing drive controller! There are three of us that have had this. All within the last month. It started on mine by freezing and damaging some of my files here and there. Had to Rma. It is on its way back from Cali right now. I'm not sure what part they replaced. I'm guessing motherboard.

I'm on a G53SW - experiencing stuttering. Frame rates drop to 10-20 FPS seemingly randomly, then jump back up to 40-50. I've tried changing practically every setting, but get the same result every time. All of my drivers are updated. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I only had the chance to play this for about 20 min before I had to go to sleep but so far the graphics are surprisingly smooth and easy on resources. I had it set to high presets, 1080p, 4x AA, 8x AF and it was not perferctly smoth but very playable. I didn't get a chance to measure actual framerates.

Just as awesome as I expected :) GOTY without a doubt.

I have everything on High inc shadows + FXAA 4x AA 8x AF 900p and I am seeing between 40-45fps. Also shifted up the distances a bit.

    Tidy.

I have been drooling over this netbook all day :( You cannot get it in the UK and it has the ION2 GPU which is the only one I want :( totally gutted.

Gonna have to end up splashing out like £300 to get shipped over from a seller with postage and taxes.

    Use FRAPS ^^

Here are my settings for the JH and some screenshots, I was wondering if the graphics are all that to begin with but keep going once you get outside the scenary is wonderful and I love how open plan it is just like Oblivion you cannot beat RPG's like this.

Another game that proves the JH can still perform perfectly :) 800/1100 920XM at 3.33ghz * 4

I just got Skyrim and trying it on my G73JH. I'm getting 25-30 fps and even as low as 20fps when looking at certain directions in the beginning wagon cinematics/dragon attack.

My settings aren't even as high as yours. I have AA off and AF set to 8! Why am I performing so badly on the same laptop? I don't have any overclocking, but I can't see your OC's tripling your performance with higher visuals to boot.

However, I am running Catalyst 11.8. Is the latest version that much of an improvement?

Draetor24 try to set AA to 0 it helps a lot. I running it on 1920x1080, all high, shadows medium, AA 0, AF 16 FXAA turned on, all reflections in water. 40+ FPS.
Great !!! Love my laptop ;)

Is there much "visual candy" when having AA up on a 1080p screen?

err better question, is AA worth the performance drop on a 1080p screen?

    @Draetor24

I notice no difference in performance with AA on as per my settings x4 AA + 16x AF and all high with raised distances on 900p I see 40-50fps+ you may not need AA on as you are running at 1080p it just adds that extra crispness for my 900p screen......maybe its 1080p slowing you down but upgrade to 11.10 for sure there have been a lot of changes since 11.8.

I do have my 920XM clocked high and as this is open landscape that could be why.

Another sneaky pic to show this games beauty!

Jody: Is there any way to detect that?

Dallers: LOL should have let me know before I sold mine, its certainly a beast little netbook.

Also, Dallers, its definetly your XM thats letting you hit those frames, All high except radial blur, no AA, and 12x AF 1080p and I easily push >60 fps indoors, but outside its barely 30. No CPU OC but with my GPU at 800/1100. The reason I think its your CPU, is because a friend of mine with a weaker* gpu compared to us, but much stronger CPU (a 2500K) gets same as me indoors but never dips below 45 outdoors. :(

Im about to play again, so this time ill OC my CPU. If I dont see much improvement, Im just gonna wait till the 7000 ATI/AMD release then update my gpu and cpu at the same time lol

You maybe right there fella I see a comfortable 60-70fps inside and outside I dont see the number 30 at all and I have raised my distances up pretty high and still perfection.

My XM outside is pounding out those cores now it is bouncing around 50-60% load on each core and upto 80oC. Well its time you got one my friend they are too cheap to turn down now, BF3 and Skyrim make full use of 3ghz+ on 4 cores and they are two main games im playing right now.

Man everytime I think this game cannot get any better I climb a mountain to flutes and violins playing and it begins to snow I mean just.....WOW.

    Next time my friend ;)

    Ok the OC on the CPU helps a lot, but now im having two problems;

    1. Fraps stopped working.
    2. The game keeps randomly minimizing, not crashing, but just minimizing lol even took the OC back off and they both are still doing this.

    Any ideas?

I have seen neither of these problems sorry :( have you installed the update 1.1 yet?

Also make sure you apply the shadow tweaks to the trees and land made a huge difference for me. I also turned compass crosshair and quest markers off along with changing my FOV to 100 in 3rd person.

Now its a proper RPG :)

    Its all explained here:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim tweaks improve graphics, disable Vsync, change FOV and more | PC Gamer

:) and its makes a massive difference without hitting performance. I couldn't stand my camera being right behind his shoulder and when you push the FOV by using the console - FOV xx - (100 I like) it gives it a real cinematic view and you can clearly see what you are being attacked by. I also shut off all the added extras as I find you should be questing without a marker telling you where to go, its all about exploring :)

I just downloaded the 1.1 update. But I couldn't find it on the official site so I just used a T word which is not allowed here ;)

EDIT: your problem could be the sound issue mentioned in that post ^^

Yea I just changed the sound setting and its still happening :(

Other thing, I cannot get any console commands to work, as someone else mentioned.

The FOV setting, does that change 1st and 3rd or only 3rd person?

I properly cleaned out catalyst 11.8 and put in 11.10, but I get the exact same frame rates as before in the spot I tested it. My AA is 0, as I find AA is the single most frame killer in any game. Perhaps it's the spot I'm in? When looking at one spot, I have 28fps, but moving around I get more in the 30-40 range.

I still don't see why I have lesser frames than everyone else with my same laptop and drivers.

Also as a side note, any notice the sound/music is really really low in comparison to other games? In other games, I have my volume at 50-60%, but in Skyrim, I crank it to 100% and it's still low in comparison. I'm not using Creative drivers at all, just the Realtek/HDMI ones.

We're seeing a lot of graphical computation being put on the cpu these days.

Maybe it's time to get a XM...

XM people! Keep your JH and XM it. I am still using a stock adaptor and my overclocks run fine on it although a little warm its a cheap simple upgrade.

I agree about the shadows you can clearly see that they are being worked by the CPU they are blocking and not smooth.

You can make some tweaks as above though and it does improve things and give the trees and landscape an SSAO look and feel.

Just got to Whiterun :) totally engrossed in this game already its gonna be a game you daydream about at work for sure! I love how much content there is as well the blacksmithing is excellent and the mining. I have applied all the extra tweaks to aid the shadows and eye candy and have not seen below 40fps once.

If you have not bought this game yet you are wasting your life. Finish with your girlfriend pronto.

    Oh well heres my input.
    Single 485m at 680/1600.
My settings were auto ultra but performance was creepy.
After reading around I've turned down shadows to high and object details to high.
I have max AF, 4xMsaa and Fxaa enabled. I'm getting 45 of average, with max being 60fps as vsync is on, being 40 the lowest.
Sincerely I was hoping for a better performance, but reading around seems that high end gpus (desktop) struggle to have 60fps as well.

Didn't applied any of the ini tweaks as yet since I'm ok with the performance right now, I may mod the fov soon.
    All 1080p obviously.

Dallers: What tweaks are you putting where? Because that page you linked had some of them wrong (like the vsync option), other then the vsync option I havent been able to get ANYTHING including console commands, to work, its frustrating.

I also restarted steam and still havent been pushed an update

What> Just go into Documents - Games - Skyrim and go into the prefs INI and hit Ctrl F and type the first few letter of the line you are changing from 0 to 1 its simple boris!

I didnt bother with the vync option because I am happy with 60fps inside to be honest. I do what I always do however and buy the game and use a cough cough 'crk' because I cannot stand spyware or constant online connections. If I own the game its not stealing.

Ah ok because that other link was saying to go into the pref.ini thats inside the steam common apps, not into my documents.

Im guessing you changed the tree/water settings? What else?
