The Momentus XT uses 4k sectors.

Your partitions might be misaligned causing performance issues.

I'm having the same problem with my Momentus. I'm actually moving about 50 gigs of files from one partition to another right now and it is going at about 23MB/s right now. Very, very very slow. Not at all sure how to fix this tough.

I have multiple partitions on one HDD cause that was the way it came from Asus. Before I decided that I didn't like it, I had more stuff on there than I could reliably backup.

Not sure, I use multiple partitions because helps me keep everything separate. Anime, Work, School, Downloads, Games etc. And also makes doing clean install of Windows 7 awesome since I don't lose any of my other files, just the Windows partition.

Anyways, my transfer rate is around 73 mb/s.
