Just a warning for the fellow users, the game is absolutely broken right now. So if you were planning to buy the game you might want to hold off until they fix it. Online is nigh unplayable, can't even join my friend without it just going ballistic. Seems like a lot of AMD users are having lots of issues, the game overall is a very sloppy release. If you disconnect your internet entirely you can probably play Single Player but what fun is that for a coop game? Save your money friends.

THX for the heads up.
Sloppy as in full of bugs or just not what they advertised?
Been waiting for this game since the first teaser. To bad they rushed it out -
Sloppy as in really buggy, unplayable in a lot of instances, etc. It's just really bad. Apparently they released the developer build of the game instead so it's really badly bugged. Hopefully there's a mighty big patch soon to fix everything.
-
so seriously
the witcher 2 was broken
black ops was/is broken
dead islan is broken
brink was totally broken
dexus ex is old game
duke nuke is old game
dirt 3 had red sun glitch and other things
battlefield bc2 had lot of issue, some are still here (minor issues/bugs)
I am totally disappointed, I wonder if it still worth being a pc gamer those times... for sure my desktop will have nvidia btw... -
I thought deus-ex human revolution had great reviews?
-
yeah because it is a good game, but the graphic itself it's not what I were expecting.
Duke nukem instead was even a poor game after all :3 -
-
LOL look no further than Crysis 2, which is a joke of a release at first on DX9 with blocky textures just awfully pixellated.
Then they give out this DX11 patch made to deliberately favor nvidia with unreasonably tessellated side blocks while some other items remain like they were from 2005. Then there is tessellated sea/water rendered cunningly in scenes where you are inside a building shooting through corridors.... -
More like they make you think they doing a realy good job....and at the end they just .... on you
Take Duke....not a rush just old engine and a bit of rework but they advertised that they were hard at work.
Dead Island has been a long waiting game to so can not say they rushed with it. More like they get a idea but then get bored and just finish it realy bad. -
Sometimes I do wonder why do I even bother to feverishly wait for good gaming laptops or plan of building a killer Desktop.
-
or is it mostly due to amd crappy software support / drivers issues?
-
Then AMD has its own fault but still... -
The problems for Dead Island seems to be specific for Steam versions since there is reports which indicate that version is an unfinished build since you can read in Kotaku right now:
Faulty Dead Island Steam
or here:
Unfinished Dead Island on Steam
And for the AMD side, it's sad Nvidia (and AMD) put money in developers just for made games more compatible with their own cards. -
Witcher 2 broken?
Well in a way yes, but I think they were the best to patch it up. Some games are totally unplayable and get a small patch a month after not doing anything. The Witcher 2 had great patches, with free DLC and they even got rid of the DRM because it was causing problems. Many companies have their DRM breaking the game and won't care at all lol. -
I read an article saying the dev will or have? released a day one patch to fix the problem somewhat qnd its still unplayable?
-
Witcher 2 plays great here...

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
A patch will not fix the issue that easily it seems.
Devs are investigating the problem and so far the first news says that a complete redownload is required.
Too many resources are unfinished in the build, so unless they do a patch Witcher 2 style (9gb anyone?) is better to do a full redownload.
This thing is weird anyway, I've never seen a dev publish a beta build, the world is going crazy -
eh... I'm happy with it. I played for 4 hours last night, and had zero issues. Even did a LAN game with a friend and had no issues. Was still connected o the 'net, just played locally. Hopefully they'll get everything worked out, and who knows... maybe Steam purchasers will get a bone thrown to them! (yeah, right...)
-
Aside from the issues, is it worth getting? I have no steam friends so it would most likely be randoms that I would be pairing up with.
-
I will wait for a month or two for dev to sort this out
-
-
It's all about the money.
As many expensively produced games recently, Deus Ex 3 was developed in Montreal. Why do you think that is? Sure, Montreal is a pretty cool place, but it was developed there because Quebec province actually gives free money to the company: 37.5% of the developers' wages.
It's the same with beta builds being released as retail with $50, $60, $70 price tags. I guess the Dead Island guys have started a new era where they will just send you a broken alpha build instead of the actual game... then you have to wait 6 months and pay $15 a month for "updates" until the game is finally fixed/finished. -
There has been a update btw it helped a little
But honestly the game begs for AA and AF and foliage quality..
i bought both pc and xbox and xbox is at least x15 less buggy and looks better..
Even maxed out ton the pc it looks iffy -
Gaming has been pretty abysmal lately in terms of release day functionality...
There is one good side though for PC gamers. They don't have to wait weeks/months for the stupid QA process that both Microsoft and SONY require for their consoles.
On PC once a patch is done its out -
An unfinished version was released on steam, maybe that's the problem?
read here Whoops, You Might be Playing An Unfinished Version of Dead Island -
By now, if you've got yourself a copy of Dead Island, then you probably know that the digital copy released to Steam was not the release build of the game. Deep Silver has apologized to zombie slayers for this PC muck-up, and a correct version of the game is now available on Steam. In addition, Deep Silver has something planned to "make up" to North American fans affected by the day one PC issues, and they'll release details on that soon.
The Bloodbath DLC is still on schedule as planed, and pre-order fans will still receive the DLC when it launches. Finally, there is an activation bug for "The Ripper" due to the version update, this will be fixed in the next game patch. Check out the patch notes below. Note that the update may cause incompatibilities between the incorrect version of Dead Island and the fixed version. If you have a problem select New Game -> Select the same character as you were using before, then at the "Chapter Select" option you can jump to the last chapter you were playing.

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Just launched the game maxing out every possible option on my g53sw.
God there's NO VSYNC OPTION! w-t-f, it's 2011 guys. Oh well d3doverrider comes handy but hell!
Anyway it stays above 65fps, with spikes in 85-90.
On "normal" settings it almost have 10fps more lol. Btw I like the setting and I don't see this "bland" graphic that everyone talks about.
It's not the most detailed game ever but it looks pretty. -
Alright after the latest patch everything is smooth as cake. Played some online coop with my friend for a few hours, no issues. Pretty fun game, runs pretty well and looks pretty nice. Finally able to enjoy the game.
-
-
It's like Fallout 3 with zombies and a strong emphasis on melee weapons.
-
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
It's an hybrid between Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising.
Plus throw in the mechanic of fallout/oblivion about the quest system/rpg elements and traveling and you'll end up with DI.
Also a warning: the game doesn't have a vsync option unless you force it into the Video.scr file located in the save folder (documents).
Open it with notepad and add the line:
Vsync: ()
(I left a space between two dots and first bracket otherwise it would show an emotionicon).
The command is described in the file. You can also raise quality detail by editing the file settings like the witcher 2.
I HIGHLY advice to use vsync because the game forces the gpu to run at constant 99%, like furmark.
There are alot of reports with desktop and laptop users having their systems overheating or reaching insane amount of temp/heat.
Ive observed this problem on my desktop and on my g53sw; on the latter without vsync I hear the fans going fullbore like it never did before with any game.
Same applies to my desktop.
The first patch did nothing basically beside disabling dev tools and no clip. The game engine still need a fair amount of tweaking and optimization because at his current state it's causing more harm than good things.
It pushes a huge load on the gpu without reason so be aware. -
I also tried the Vsync already inside the file, didnt seem to do anything either; in fact, everytime I tried to change something, all of my settings in game would return to default -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Yeah I forgot to add that you need first to max the details in game, then edit the video.scr file and put it in read only.
Anyway don't apply the vsync option; instead use D3DOverrider to force vsync and triple buffering and you'll be fine.
Also as strange as it sounds, If you play with mouse and keyboard the game althought running at 60fps jitters and stutters like hell.
I've read somewhere that playing with an xbox controller doesn't makes this bug happens and I wasnt trusting this advice; but after I've connected my controller I can confirm that the jitter/stutter doesn't happen with it, totally smooth. -
Well after scrounging through peoples luggage for 5 minutes for a couple of bucks I decided this maybe was not the game for me.
Hit a few zombies with a paddle and hmmm....Yes glad I didnt go buy it. -
Lol just started it did try 10 min to play and was like whaaaaatttt... oo look a nother dollar ....and another and another
Runs nice. Hope to see some zombie action to after work. -
Must be just me but I get motion sickness after 30 mins of playing this.
-
-
In the words of a Holy Paladin Gnome. Epic Fail. -
lol....after the prologue it opens up and there's lots of items not in luggage. <_<
-
Sorry Kuro you did your best to convince me but the luggage was only the start of something even worse. -
-
Punching and kicking zombeflesh can give you AIDS.
-
The game just turned out bad.
Im sorry.
but i would rather hop on world at war and play custom maps with better zombies, or dead rising 2 cuz its just fun.
This game has the right idea, its just..BAD.
The suitcases= BIG turn off.
like ?
I dont need to go around tapping f to get 3 dollars and some soap?
The story line is crap too.
I had to force alot of setting through nvidia control panel and its still iffy.
And i mean, come on no vsync?
if your going to make a game that a game boy can get more than 60fps put it in there! -
Plus, other then the fact I still cannot get this mod for Vsync to work; I tried playing with a few of my clan mates, and there is no push to talk button, "talking" is always on and so feed back loops kept occurring; easy to fix I thought, just mute the mic's and type instead LOL but Ive yet to find a way to type to communicate <___< probably because you cannot. The only thing thats made this bearable so far is the ability to use a controller IMO. -
reading this thread is quite entertaining =)
-
Infected crazed flesh eating monsters are about to kill us all.
However,
Here is a quest go find 10 pieces of my old recipe for chicken with tomato and basil pasta sauce, it is vital you find this and I will pay you in dollars for you to spend at the nearest weapon shop that just materialized out of thin air when the Infected crazed flesh eating monsters appeared...
But first go find luggage and take this spade with you... -
-
"You open the piece of Samsonite, and find 10,000 used Ramse's Gold Condoms with Ribbed Textures for her pleasure."
Value: $3
Used condoms are considered a great snack by zombies. -
Lol now thats a useful find
Got around to play again. I feel like a bum going around in the trash. Not like in fallout.
Found a crowbar....hmmm wait a minute........suddenly half-life
The missions are a bit odd and strange is that after you find the quest item and start to go back the way you came is filled with zombies....again. Also most of them are on the ground like the rest of the dead ppl.
So far not my cup of tea. Will try to get some better weapons to see if that will make it better. -
Vsync works great for me along with many other "hidden" options you can enable via a quick edit of Video.scr. (Located in your dead island game folder, or in your My Documents\Dead Island folder)
So Dead Island came out.
