    Hello all,

It's time for me to upgrade from my 3 year old G1, and given my good experiences with Asus, I am getting another one.

After doing my research, I am pretty much decided on the G73-JW, and my local store has ONE unit left and will only hold it for another 15 hours, hence the semi-urgency here, for which I apologise beforehand.

    1) I have decided on the JW model because it seems like the GSOD problems are to do with the JH models only (is this a correct conclusion?) and that the temperatures on the JW seem to be cooler, albeit slightly slower, which is something I can live with. So my first question is, does the JW model not get GSOD problems?

    2) After doing the reading, it seems like the touchpad/keyboard issue is quite prevalent - I just want to know if there are actually people with the JW model with no such problems?

    3) Do you need to repaste? Or at least are you contemplating to do it? Is it necessary?

In general, I am just trying to see if a perfectly-working G73JW actually exists, and if so, by what margin. So if you have one, please kindly vote and let me know if yours is perfect or not, and if not, what problem is it seeing?

Thanks all VERY much in advance, I very much look forward to being the next G73 owner here!

    1) JW model does not have the GSOD problems. But either does the JH models anymore.
Temperatures do seem to be better on the JW with stock paste than the JH with stock paste.

    2) Both the JW and JH have problems with keyboard/trackpad but not everyone has the problem/ cant reporduce it. Seems to be a driver / how fast you can type problem. New BIOS is coming out this week for the JH according to Gary Key.

    3) If you get the JW most likly you wont have to. There are also people with the JH that have not had to repaste also.

No computer is perfect and most of the JH problems have been fixed. Just go on which ever one has the features you like. i.e JH has ATI, JW has NIVIDA and USB 3.0

I support the arguments above. Let me also add that i do feel the G73JW is a very good machine and after a speedy replacement from Amazon on my first unit (that won't boot at all), the second one I do not have any major issues.

With that, I say for my standards, the G73JW is near perfect for my needs.

nope. the JW i bought from tigerdirect came with sound issues (crackling), and also wireless problems. i sent it in to ASUS for an RMA 3 days after receiving it from tigerdirect. and upon starting it up for the first time installing windows, i got an error popup after the installation so something must have went wrong with the first time installation of windows.

    "Perfect"

I have one issue that I've not been able to solve. The system wakes up from hibernate, but gets stuck at the ASUS post screen like once every month or so.

There are no GSOD problems with the JH if you have the current vBios. The nvidia card runs cooler, but not that much cooler (according to notebookcheck.net) ... though a bunch of early JH models had terrible paste jobs.

Mine, unfortunately, died after a couple of weeks of ownership. Awaiting repair or replacement. Was wonderful when it worked, though.
