I have been very frustrated with this problem for the past few hours and have tried reinstalling multiple drivers... I have no idea why this is happening, as my G73jh has done nothing like this in the past year I have owned it. Please help!

Do you think if I just bought a cheap USB External Sound Card Audio Adapter that it would work?

I think it should work, windows should theoretically stop sending the audio feed to the speakers if you tell it to use the usb adapter. If you know someone with a USB headset or USB soundcard, borrow theirs to check. It definitely works with my JH and corsair vengeance 1500, but my headphone jack also works properly.

Have you tried a different headphone? It might be sensing it as a Line level device or something

Also in windows 7 under sound settings > Playback devices, it should show your speaker as one of the devices, maybe try disabling it from there.

A USB or express card sound card will work because its a different device altogether. Just make sure you disable your onboard sound in the device manager. If you are gonna get one, i suggest the Turtle Beach Amigo II

Is your audio issue a recent development? If so, using Windows System Restore to restore to an earlier time may help you resolve the problem.

EDIT: Read your referenced post on the other forum. Doesn't look like this will be a possibility.

Sounds like your audio driver installation is corrupt. I think I would try uninstalling the Realtek driver and use Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode to clean up any Realtek remnants (if they exist).

So I ended up ordering a USB External Sound Card from amazon since it was only like $3. It works fine but it kinda sucks taking up a USB spot though, plus a sound level of 5 (in the bottom right corner) is really loud, have to be really careful about volume now =/ oh well guess its better than sending my laptop to ASUS for a third time.
