    Hi,

Basically, i made this thread to get your opinions on wether I should RMA the unit or not.

It seems my subwoofer is broken. It makes the sound like it is cracked (dont know if that is the correct english word). All bass frequencys from 100 - 600hz (my estimation) are really distorted and it's unbarable!

It doesnt seem to matter what volume I play back on, i can still hear it.

Are your computers the same or did I get a broken sound system?

How are you hearing 100-600hz out of the sub? ;)

120hz and below are typically what you're going to be hearing from any sub, even a tiny one. It's probably 120-80hz capable.

I'm wondering if you could visually see if the sub-woofer is cracked. Can you play a Bass intensive song and shine a flashlight into the sub-woofer grill and check that way?

If it is a constant distorted sound while playing anything, I mean anything, good chance the sub is broken. From experience, no matter the $ you spend on a laptop the speakers are pretty delicate.

@ Dune10191 - Good idea, I will try and see if something is visually out of order when i get home from work.

@Shoe3k - All sounds don't produce the distortion, only bass. Perhaps lower midrange too.

I will make a call to Asus and see what they say about it.

    Thanks for your answers!

So, yesterday i called Asus. They wanted me to first re-install the realtek drivers to make sure that wasn't the problem.

Did it and be damned if it didnt help! I thought. Some time later during the evening the distortion came back.
I then tilted the computer back to see if i could see anything wrong with the subwoofer and the distortion went away.
Put it back down and it came back.

Seems like something inside is causing the distortion from vibration.
Like something is touching a moving membrane or something...

Any ideas on what it could be?
