How good is the sound card that comes standard on the G73? I was wondering if a decent upgrade would be viable.

I haven't done any critical listening to the soundchip in the G73 since I've been focusing on nagging GSOD issues. Tho over my Sony Sound Dock the audio sounds full ranged and not harsh. I'll have to slip on the HD580s and do some serious listening to my "test" songs.

These things tend to be a bit individual, but it sounds good to me on my HD595s at least.

I do professional work on the G73 and the sound card is fine. 'Had latency issues with Sibelius and Cubase for a while, but changing a few settings cleared it up and playback is smooth. I guess you could do an upgrade if you use those programs daily, but it has been more than good enough in my experience.

In terms of how music itself sounds in iTunes etc., you definitely don't need to upgrade for that reason, it sounds great on my ATH-M50s.

Sounds ok to me, I listen to a lot of music with it hooked up to my stereo and I am pretty happy overall. if in doubt you can always try hooking it up via spdif or hdmi to your speaker or sound system this should be the best quality as it will be a pure digital signal to the stereo.

Compared to Asus C90s I have earlier, G73JH sounds like heaven.
