    Hi
I got an ASUS G73. My sounds are coming from the subwoofer only, not my internal speakers.
My sound drivers are the latest of Realtek and the ATI high def one. No creative drivers.
Before i noticed this i did a repaste job, i can't remember if i has this issue before the repaste job, but i do remember that i reinstalled all my sound drivers before the repaste job due to a freezing issue. (Repaste did a 30% drop btw :D)
    But, now the subwoofer.... =/
    Any help?

I had a similar issue when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate over the Stock ASUS Home Premium Image. I downloaded the latest and greatest and afterwards I my sound was acting all kinds of weird. I would get a loud speaker pop everytime a sound would play.

After trying to figure out what was going on for a day or two I decided to reload the stock ASUS image and the issues went away. So my issue was definitely driver related.

Can you take an image of your harddrive and then restore the stock to see if you still have the same issue?

And my Realtek software isn't showing anything related to the subwoofer or the speakers, can't find any options about them...
    Help anyone?

I mean take an backup image of the machine using backup software such as Acronis, ghost, etc. That way if you restore from the original discs and it doesn't solve the issue you can just restore from backup.

Your problem is that the OS has a separate audio device for the sats and the sub. There should only be one. If you look at the list of playback devices, I am sure there are two "Speakers" listed. This is corrected by doing a full uninstall, reboot, sweep with Driver Sweeper 2.90, then reinstall & reboot.

    Long shot, but JIC:

I've had this issue before, everytime I update my realtek drivers. The culprit? The realtek drivers insist on completely uninstalling and restarting, effectively having you run the executable TWICE [with restart in between] for the drivers to properly install.

And yes, for whatever reason the subwoofer still works. Whether it's isolated as another speaker as Chastity mentioned or not, though, I've never noticed.

We didn't get the SRS edition of our soundchip, so we don't have a Dolby Digital Live / DTS Connect option to get 5.1 gaming. Too bad we can't license it ourselves. So, no, unless you find a hax for it.

I remember those systems have a Digital DIN for 5.1 PCM passthru on certain Creative cards. If you really want to use that system with your laptop, I would invest in a USB Soundcard that supports DD Live/DTS Connect, like this:

I think I know the cause.. you mentioned that you repasted the thermal paste, which means you opened your G73 before. Just under the keyboard there's a small white plug( It's the smallest plug that you can find on G73, you'll see it right after you take the keyboard off. ), perhaps you forgot to plug it back in. That plug connects to the 2 small speakers under the screen. You might want to check again.
