Do have one question, Is it a big problem if on my comp (g73) It constinaly states your graphics card is incompatible with the game? I play it anyways and it runs fine. My friend had the same thing happen on his G51(i think that is what it was) And his graphics card fried/along with his screen all locked pixels
-
-
and yes, it runs perfectly fine on ultra settings regardless of that message..
do you get that message everytiime? or was it only once when u first installed the game -
Its funny since SCII will identify the HD 5870m just fine, but still says its incompatible. I just ignored the message, cranked everything up to ultra, and am loving it
As for your friend, I was playing with a friend of mine that has a g60, and he didnt get that message, and has been playing it just fine. Dont the g51 and g60 have the same nvidia 260m gpu? -
Im pretty sure they do, I dont know I just was seeing if others were having the same problems because sc2 has been frieing peoples gpus like crazie
-
Have you applied the fps fix? That helps with temps

Blizzard Confirms StarCraft II Overheating Bug | Koku Gamer
For w/e reason, Blizzard still hasnt included this fix in any of their patchs, you have to do it manually.
And im not sure about vsync, since it syncs fps with your screen refresh rate (60hz) and not even our powerful laptops can run SCII at 60fps -
Like Ownageful here I too did get the message during (or just after) the install, I had read here about the message, but I simply ignored it, and yes I play everything on ultra and SC2 does regonize my 5870
.
I seem not to have the overheating (GPU staying below 80C) problem, but maybe I should look into that fix anyway. -
Do you have thermal paste on your GPU? I have no idea how you can be below 80C when playing this game at all ultra settings lol
And you can see your fps in menus or in game by pressing ctrl + alt + f, just an fyi -
my gpu goes up to 93 degree celcius, and for some reason the 1st time playing it, the graphics were distorted.
ultra settings but the tattoo on raynor hand only show pixelated squares. when playing, there will be sudden lighting strikes.
fixed it via uninstall the driver and the reinstall the new grpahics. -

No issues here, using different drivers than most people though.
I play on all High not Ultra since Ultra can be slow in certian situations like Mothership cloaking or custom games with mass unit battles.
It looks the same on High to me as Ultra so it did not take much thought to settle for high instead of ultra even though the G73 can and does handle Ultra settings pretty well. -
Yup. In the end the graphics doesn't matter much. Skills do.

@Vicious, what temps and frames do you get?
@Sachiel, this is true lol
Also I just played a 4v4, and while my frames weren't as high as I expected, my temps seemed to be a bit lower going from the 209 bios to 211 (yes I know 211 kicks in the fans sooner), my max temp on 209 was 94C, now its only 87C, not bad in my book. -
I got a steady 60 fps in the menus (heard about the FPS creep in the menus so I too wanted to test this) and a steady 40 fps ingame. During the video scenes it was on 24 fps or there about. Everything on ultra.
Now my temps, again my CPU was around 70C, this time one CPU reached 72C. My GPU was just below 80C, maxing at 80C on the dot, again.
Running all stock, and have NOT repasted or done anything, just uninstalled most of the preinstalled programs.
Sry CrappyAlloy, I can´t answer you why my temps are so low (or normal should maybe be the right word).
Also, I´m currently on electric net, battery out (played this way too), laying in my bed with the laptop in my lap, lol. I got a book between me and the computer to give it some breathing room, though it´s pretty much useless (not a thick book).
My keyboard is cool, I could feel some warmth from the right side, but is all cool now after ~15 min of just surfing the web. The air coming out was hot, not alarmingly so, but noticable heat could be felt (more so from the right side, as it is the GPU side as I understand). Fan noise was not bad at all during gameplay, now it is a steady humming, slightly faster then on complete idle/just turned on. In a dead silent room so I can tell.
Holy crap, just noticed there is pinch & zoom on the touchpad...what else am I missing out on
(I know about the rolling up & down, I knew to test it cause on my GF´s HP as it too).
Edit. forgot to say that I´m also on Wlan if it matters. AND my ambient temps are around 22C atm -
-
22C ambient isn't low.. in my house , its 15C ambient in winter.. heating shortage
.. but anyways , its about 22C here now anyways..
-
thats weird.. i didnt apply no fix , but i am getting proper temps.
Just saw this thread after 3 hours of gaming, so i thought i'd post a screeny
This is after 3 hours of sc2 on ultra, as you can see , i only reached a max of 82, i wonder if i would drop if i applied that fix or updated to bios 211?
-
Well for me ambient temps of 26C is good lol out here in SoCal where recently the temps have been up to 110F
Also, bios 211 might not help you like it did me because my ambient temps are always higher -
Out Well just foundblizzard will be releasing a update that will fix the graphics problems
-
What app is that ur clocking your guys temps
-
I attached a gpu sensor log of my aforementioned 4v4 (had to delete some of the log due to the attachment size limit)
Cat 10.1
Bios 211
Ambient 27C
All ultra settings
Im going to try again on all high settings for the hell of it
Edit
@Robdabest, GPU-Z is what I use, it can monitor all of the sensors in the background while you play your game, that gives you a readout in the form of a txt docAttached Files:

Well your temps arn´t that bad Alloy. If you have a max temp of 87C compared to my 80C with 5C higher ambient I´d call it the close enough

does anybody get lag when there is mass unit attacking in SC2? when playing marine arena or 4 on 4 sometime it lagg really bad is that normal or it just my g73?
-
Playing on High I can run the game pretty good. It is actually smoother at times than my desktop with an X2 (crossfire issues methinks) but other than that it is a fantastic game.
New vBios (Chastity Version), 211, 10.9a, Stock Clocks most of the time. -
So for people playing on ultra, are you also playing 1920x1080?
I let SC2 set my settings for me and it put me on medium with 1024x768??
I adjusted everything to ultra but wonder if 1920x1080 would tax the gpu and generate a lot more heat..
thx -
yes as you widen it more your gpu has to keep every frame.
definitely make it hot. i would play on 1680x1050 on ultra.
i have yet to get my laptop and try this but i bet wi/ vsync on and the right drivers w/ bios update i should be able to get under 80 degree's no doubt.
anyone have SS of different resolutions and FPS. also temps would be nice. -
If youre playing on ultra, areas with water will seriously slow down your game becouse of reflections (which are ironically described as CPU reliant btw, so its actually the mobile CPU that is limiting us this time not the mobile GPU). Just turn those off and you should be fine without missing much.
