I just can't find out why my G73jh locks up, this only happens when i leave the notebook on oven night when i need to download large files. I have got power4gear hybrid set to the following settings.

    Maximum performance
    Maximum processor state - 100%
    Minimum processor state - 5%
    Sleep after - Never
    Hibernate after - Never
    Turn of hdd - Never
Turn off display - 20 minutes
    Ajust display brightness - 15

The keyboard lights and all other lights are on but when i move the touchpad, press a key or move the mouse nothing happens. I have to hold the power button to turn off and i get no blue screen or anything, its not overheating so its bugging the hell out of me. This is the only problem i have with this great notebook. It has not done it for a few months then all of a sudden its started to do it again and i've net changed anything as i know of.

All the lockups and freezes I have faced have been Audio driver related. When I do a factory reset they come back however I keep an installation of Realtek 2.54 to hand and uninstall creative and Realteak and drivers sweep. The reinstall Realtek 2.54 and then reinstall the creative drivers on top of that the stock ones for me 1.0 after doing so all freezes and lockups go away.

Im sure newer version should fix the problem im just happy with 2.54 as it works as it should do for me.

If not then maybe try preventing the display turning off and making sure everything is connected properly make sure you have the latest display drivers the list could go on trial and error. I would bet that its the audio drivers tho.

You may have Power Savings enabled in the WiFi driver settings. Turn off any "Green" settings. Do the LAN as well.

Thanks i've just unticked the option to allow the laptop to power down the wireless card so i'll see if that helps.

Have you tied upgrading/reinstalling power 4 gear? (1.1.37 is the latest for the JH i believe).
Or try removing the power 4 gear app and just use 1 of the the standard windows power themes?
I do similar D/L technique with mine due to slow DSL and do not use Power 4 gear.

I've unistalled power 4 gear and i'll see how it goes. if it still locks up i'll post log from event viewer. The lockup never happens while i'm using the laptop, it seems to be when i'm away and the screen goes off.

I dont see why any of those apps would cause it to crash though because mine doesn't, only creative caused me lockups and by using Realtek 2.58 and then creative on top it never freezes.

Have you thought about just going for a factory reset and start again. Then just run through every driver on Chastity's driver page and update it and then see if it happens after doing that, sometimes its good to start from scratch.

Can be a memory error or memory timing issue.
    Search for "kernel power 41".

Should i clear my logs and leave my notebook on tonight so i can see what errors are happening. I've noticed i get this alot in my event viewer.

Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The first DWORD in the Data section contains the error code.

That happens when (as it says) the computer was shut down unexpectedly.

But won't that error be because i held the power button down to restart, it would be an error before.

I had the exact same problem with my G73Jh. I reinstalled/reformatted, recovered and flashed that laptop more than any end-user should. It was RMA'd 4 times as well. Finally, ASUS Canada replaced the notebook with a factory refurb and extended my warranty. It probably isn't what you want to hear but the replacement model has worked perfectly for 3 weeks now. It never hangs and I can leave it running over night with no fear of a lock-up. I just wish it didn't take 5 months to finally get a stable notebook.

Could be a lot of reasons to get that error. All of them involve the system not shutting down cleanly.

Well i don't fancy RMAing it after all the horror stories about asus. My g73 never overheats, has had the vbios flashed and never locks up or freezes when i'm using it. This only happens when i leave it on overnight, i'm wondering if i get a blue screen of death when it locks up but can't tell as the screen has powered down and won't wake up after if locked up.

3 days ago i disabled the wireless lan and i've been using the internet via wired lan. I left my notebook on overnight for the 3 days and its not locked up once. Could the wireless card be the problem.

Yes, either the card itself or the drivers. Try updating those first if you haven't already. If you have another wireless adapter lying around, you could try it and see if your problem is fixed. In the worst case, the intel 6200 and 6300 are rather cheap now.

Even the "lowly" 6200 will probably make you a happy camper!
