I bought this laptop a few weeks ago from a local shop and it functioned normally for the first week or so. However, after that, I started experiencing a strange problem with the screen for this laptop.

When I switched on the laptop, the keyboard, hard drive, etc. would all come on, all except the screen. I can even hear Windows starting up, but the screen would still be completely blank as if the I had not switched it on.

The strange thing is that this problem happens sporadically, because when I brought it back to the shop, it started working again without a hitch (making me appear much like a fool). Again this morning, I experienced the same problem. However after trying multiple times and trying out some of the solutions in the sticky, it managed to start again.

I just want to ask whether I should visit the service center regarding this problem? And whether anyone has any idea what the problem is? While the laptop is working fine at the moment, the problem keeps coming back, and I'm not sure if I can replicate this problem for the people at the service center.

    Thanks!

Btw, I have a video of this problem happening if it is needed.

Recipero, do you close the lid when you power down? I had a similar issue with another brand and the owner did close and open often. Long Story Short: It turned out to be a bad cable.
Also have you taken the computer apart & did a visual inspection?

Hrm, yes I do close the lid when I power off. So I guess it's recommended that we keep the laptop open? xD

Well, the problem came up once again right after I finished posting this thread. I'm going to bring it to the service centre to check it out. And I haven't dismantled it myself because frankly I don't feel comfortable doing it without experience. :x I don't want to risk voiding my warranty.

Anyway, I'll post back if the problem is solved. Thanks for the help! :)

I have the exact problem and starting today, none of the fixes appear to switch on the screen. I still can hear windows starting etc, but no screen and external monitors do not work as well. I am also using G53sx

I just bought a brand new G53SX and was happy as a little kid when it came today. I unboxed it and plugged it in and turned it on only to find the exact same issue. Turn it on and their is activity but no sound and the screen is completely dead. I bought mine from Tigerdirect and though I got a deal. I guess you get what you pay for. I am going to return it and go to Xotic. Might pay more but at least they hopefully quality check. So sad as I was psyched to play today but such is life...

    Alright, problem solved!

When I went to the service centre they managed to resolve the issue and I've been using the computer regularly for 2 days to ensure that it really is working.

Apparently the problem was that I was running on outdated bios (version 203) and once the technician updated the bios (to version 205), the laptop started working without problems.

For any of you experiencing the same problem you could try updating your bios (I think the sticky provides some information on how to do it). However, if your bios are already updated, it probably is a display issue as someone suggested prior, and you should bring it to the service centre.

Anyways, kudos to Asus for having helpful tech support, and thanks for being helpful you guys! Cheers!

So, I have also the same problem, and it occured from the beginning. I have an external monitor as well and it has these colors alright. I checked my BIOS version, hoping that update mentioned here will solve my problem, but I have version 205. If some of you guys will finally solve it, let me know. Thanks

I am experiencing an issue, very similar to the original post.
I closed the lid (which is set to put the pc into standby), placed the pc into my backpack, and thirty minutes later opened it and pressed the power button (causes windows to resume) but the screen did not come on. All the expected buttons light up but the screen is black.

    Asus g35sx.

Any suggestions? Anyone seen a true resolution to the problem?

This is the second occurrence of this issue I have experienced. The first occurred back in April and seemed to resolve itself after I plugged an external monitor up to the laptop. No such luck this time.
