I am getting a little frustrated, these are my problems.

    1. The synaptics 2 finger scroll seems to work 50% of the time, the rest of the time the pointer just sits there

    2. Modifier keys work about 75% of the time, FN and shift work just like normal but Ctrl, Alt, and Win do not. I can ctrl+click but adding a letter kills it.

They don't stop working at the same time, right now the scrolling is not working but modifier keys work.

    So far I have:
    Clean install Win7
    Installed Asus key filter
    Reinstalled synaptics drivers twice (15.1.22.2)
    Upgraded to 203 bios

    Model is G73JW-XR1

    What else could I try?

I was under the impression that this was just for the JH. Should I try to put it on my JW?

You can't use the bios on the JW. Did you load the ATK driver. Your list in the original post indicates you loaded the keyboard filter, I think. There is a keyboard filter and an ATK package but not an ATK filter so I'm not sure what you have installed.

If you don't have the ATK package installed, many of your Fn key combos will not work. I mention that because you state that they only work half the time. I'm trying to verify that it's actually not half the keys instead of half the time. Some of the Fn key combos are tied to hardware and work whether you have the software installed. Others are software inputs and will not work without the package. I believe the brightness works without the package but keyboard backlight changing does not, for instance.

I do have the ATK package installed. All of that seems to work fine, turbo mode, volume, brightness (screen and key board), etc. all work and the animation plays for all of them.

Glad I didn't try to load up the JH bios too

edit: Just played around with it and it seems that the computer reads the win+(letter) at the same time. I can tap win and the start menu loads, but if i hold it (while in a text box) and press 'd' it won't take me to the desktop but will type the letter 'd'.

Your keyboard may be no good. I just tested those key combos on my JH and they work fine. We have exactly the same keyboard. The keyboard is the same all the way back to the G71 series. I believe the difference is that the black plastic on ours is tinted a little more toward gray on the older model so it doesn't match the palmrest perfectly.

I bet that would be a pretty fast RMA, though. Super easy part to swap out and I'd be wiling to bet they have it in stock.

    Sorry I mis-read. My bad.

Yeah i'd definitely check the cables first before I RMA.

Just figured out that when I press Space Bar it get the modifier keys to work. If I hit space bar again they stop working?

I just want to bump and confirm that tapping space bar fixes and breaks it working just as I presumed in the last post.

That's really odd, and sounds more like a driver issue than a fault with the physical keyboard. Have you checked the Win7 knowledge base to see if anyone else has experienced a problem with key modifiers not working? You could also try plugging in an external keyboard and see if it behaves the same way.

Good thinking on the external keyboard, I think it's a driver issue as well.

It says that the drivers for the keyboard are ATK 1.0.0.3. Does this mean I can try a different version of ATK?

Edit: I went to the current synaptics drivers on the Asus site (15.0.11) and used the 1 finger scroll, same problem as with the newest Synaptics drivers.

Edit 2: reinstalled ATK package and it didn't help. Deleted the keyboard filter and it broke everything!.

    3:Reinstalled Keyboard filter, same problem.

4: Good news is it does the same thing with a USB keyboard so it must be a driver/software issue.

Update: In photoshop whenever I tap the space bar the hand comes up (as it should) but when I let goes the hand stays on the screen, as if I'm holding down the space bar.

    What is going on?

    bump for any info

Edit: win+L works all the time, but it is the only key. And it is so useless.
