So I'm looking to buy one of the new g73 series laptops with a gtx460m
But was wondering if I should upgrade my current g50vt, which I intend to pass on to my gf, with a t9900 or sell it and pick up a g51 with quad core 2.0mhz and the gtx260
    What doo you guys think
Game wise it would possibly only be used to play ff11 and final fantasy 14 as not really big on gaming but I would like it not to bog down so much when she plays

    So, I'm confused.

Are you buying the G73? or are you buying a g51?

Both the g73 would be for me. And the g51 would be a hand me down for my gf
Trying to move her out of a old toshiba laptop that I should just turn into a bomb :)

If money wasn't an issue, we wouldn't have low and midrange laptops. But it is an issue, and the 460m is decent.

Gtx260M is not going to be huge upgrade over the 9800M gs in your G50vt, what's the processor in your G50vt? p8400? p7350? If you play games or use specific programs that require lots of CPU power, you will notice a performance gain by upgrading to a T9900, otherwise the upgrade probably ain't worth the cost. However if you do intend to upgrade your processor, skip T9900, get a X9100, it is usually cheaper and easily overclockable with throttlestop, a mildly overclocked x9100 can match the performance of a I7-620M, which is quite impressive.

Currently im running a t9400 stock clocks, with my 9800 overclocked to gts
I can overclock to 810/830/1600 but need 1.15 v but my direct console overclock drops itself when running 3dnark06
Thus I'm wondering if the processor upgrade would be viable performance wise

I would like to see numbers with someone running a final fantasy 14 benchmark on a t9900 or that x9100 series you mentioned, I guess anything running around the 3.0mhz mark. Then have that compared to the gtx260

    I know I'm a pain but.... :p

460m doesn't suck just needs time to settle in with its drivers like most of the nvidia cards. Although in some areas the 5870m beats the 460 hands down so if you needed to free up a bit of cash have a look at the JH-A2 model, if your not going for the 3D version apart from a few small changes there is little difference in them for 100's $ more.
