hi. i recently got tera online. game is great. but i am having a few problems with he frames i get in game. everything maxed out i get between 17-27. the problem comes when i turn down the settings. the games gets worse frames then. i even tried the auto optimize option and that doesnt help wither. i am on the newest ati 12.11 beta 11 drivers. asus g73jh with 5870m and 8gb ram i7 720qm. also tried twin turbo mode and oc gpu still no luck. has anyone got some sorta fix or a config file. thanks.

hmm Tera should not have problems running on that hardware, have you checked your temps or throttling? and made sure you're not on power saver mode?

temps are fine between 73-84. as for throttling i have disabled core parking. and i have also applied turbo mode fix. i am on high performance. even got the latest p4g installed. for the throttling have you got any other suggestions? thanks.

Take a throttlestop and GPU-Z log, you'll see throttling right away.

Do you have anything else running besides TERA?

Do you have AMD caps installed?

only thing running besides tera is skype (prefer this over steam or xfire voice chat) and the setpoint software for mouse and keyboard. When you say take a throttlestop, is this some sort of software? if so do you have a link. as for gpuz's log, you want to take that whilst tera is running right?

i thought AMD caps was for crossfire gpus.

regarding the throttlestop the only thing i could figure out doing with the software is benchmark. screen shot attached [IMG]

incase that dont work here is the direct link. View image: screenshot 33

here is my gpuz sensor log while im playing tera.

and here is the throttlestop log while playing tera

All you needed was the TS log, no need to run the benchmark. Running the bench would tell you immediately if your CPU is throttling though.

Hmm, looking at the TS log, your CPU usage is only ~30% when you're playing Tera and the clocks are where they would be if you were running on all 4 cores. How many cores is Tera supposed to use? Your GPU is running at the correct clocks for gaming too.

I'd be inclined to say that the bad performance could be due to the CPU not clocking high enough if the game is running on only 1 or 2 cores. It's just a guess on my part. You could also have a corrupted file for Tera somewhere. How's your RAM usage too, skype shouldn't have an influence by the way.

Install caps even if you don't have crossfire, it help some under utilization and other stuff. Can't exactly see the load on GPU in the GPU z log ~~

iv tried loads of other games that work pretty much fine on max. far cry 3 runs close to max really welll. although i think the cpu throttles at times. hitman absolution runs well with new update. so not too sure if its the game tera thats got the problem or my cpu. how do i use throttlestop to stop my cpu from throttling? and i have installed caps2 and has not made any difference to the game. has anyone got their config files for the game as that would confirm if somethings with my ini files is wrong or if its just my laptop. thanks.

kinda running low on ideas to be honest, next thing I'd suggest is redownload and reinstall the game
aside from that would be to try out older drivers in case you have any luck.

thing is, if it's running fine on other games then there's either an incompatibility with tera or there are corrupted files from it.

Hey I'll chime in here. The issue you are experiencing is not anything hardware related. Its the game itself. The ui made by scaleform doesnt allow it to be rendered by the gpu and therefore takes up all the cpu to render it. If you would like see how much it hinders your fps. Hit ctrl+Z in game and your frames will most likely double at the minimum. From the time the game came out in may to even now despite numerous complaints and pleas the devs have done nothing to fix it =/.

Hmm must be issues with certain hardware, only played it for about 2 months and never had framerate issues

although I played it on my desktop back then

wow. that was spot on. i did that and game became smooth as butter. even in a populated area. its annoying though as you can see what npc are saying and you cant aim lol. any fixes that i can apply to the ui to increase the fps?

You could always try your hand at overclocking. If the UI's CPU usage is really the issue, my guess is that given that your CPU is running on 3.4 cores, the 1.7GHz clock speed isn't cutting it for the UI, but is alright for the rest of the game. Remember, this is just a guess on my part. Is there a free trial for TERA?. I could always dl it and check on my G73 at 1.7GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.6GHz for example.

I got the i7-920xm which makes it rather easy to OC or downclock. I'll dl that trial tomorrow (in my time zone, EST) and see if there is a difference.

You can OC the i7-720qm, but it's not as easy.

Dowbloading the trial now, I'll report back once I've had the time to run tests, but at first glance, the UI really looks like it's the issue.

any luck? i tried messing with the ini's a little bit but hasnt made much of a difference. only gained about 3 fps. still laggy. that ui problem is common though as a lot of users have it. its like a a random bug that some people get after installing the game. doesnt make a difference what settings you put the graphics at.

Sorry, been busy with family lately, will run it tonight. Is there any particular place where I should be running my tests in game, city, etc?

I just gave it a try and regardless of my CPU multiplier, I get the same framerate at almost maxed settings or at the lowest possible. I tried at x12, x13 and stock i7-920xm clocks. I can post a graph of my throttlestop log as well as screenshots with and without the UI. If you give me a detailed list of your graphical settings as well as your UI settings, I could try with those. I've only tested in the tutorial area so far, I can test somewhere else too I guess.

I was getting around 80 fps on the lowest settings and ~40 on almost maxed out, no fps change with the UI on or off.

I'm not versed in the use of setFSB, I wen the xm route instead. Yiddo would know, he OC'ed the hell out of his 720qm before getting his 920xm (all that when he had his G73). There are a few threads on NBR on how to do it, you can check the sticky at the top of Gaming Asus, it probably has links to those threads.

I did get slightly better fps at 920xm clocks rather than 720qm clocks though, the UI didn't change anything.
