I was looking at the reviews for the G72 on BB's website. The latest review (at the time I looked at it) was from a guy who was complaining about heat issues he was experiencing with his G72. He says he talked to "Consumer Relations" at BB and they told him that BB is getting a G73jh variant in the late Feb/early March time frame.
Like I said, take it for what it's worth.![]()

This is the only 17" model that might interest me.
It will probably be a watered down version but so be it with a 5870 at the right price I might pick it up.
Need some hands on time to see what it's all about, some people have reported some problems with this model in the G73 benchmark thread and that's the my only concern. -
then again the people benchmarking them are pushing them to their limits and there are bound to be a few lemons in an initial production run of any product.
I have had mine for a week now and could not be happier, and I am one of those people who have tortured his. Apart from gpu locks from trial overclocks it has given me no problems, and I was able to coax a 9575 vantage score out of it -
Yeah i guess it's hit or miss with some units but I know at least 3 members that have returned their G73's due to some problem.
Believe me I wish everything runs fine but some reports are not favorable.
Great to see you got a good one. -
-
I had to return mine due to those grey screen locks (and I did no overclocking whatsoever).... buyer beware for right now on this puppy.
It is hit or miss I guess -

I'm not trying to worry anybody, I mean really - what's to worry about other than whether or not to buy a certain model of a computer??.. I just don't want people to have to return a machine that has a flaw in it, especially after spending 1500 bucks. That's a lot of money nowadays as we all know. In my reading on the G73 forum I see that this is a common issue and until they work this bug out I would hesitate in buying this model right now. -
Let's not think of the money right now. Every companies including ASUS have their own issues. Mike, you worry way too much about G73. It's actually not common. There are a lot of lurkers who have no problems with G73 and neither do I. It's up to you, if you're just too scared to get G73, don't. Every laptops aren't perfect. If you really want a best bang for the buck right now, get G73. I guess there are problems more than it should have and If you have problems, there's always RMA.

Yeah, the thing is that lots of people that aren't having problems aren't posting on the forums. So you get a skewed sample of the percentage of owners having issues.
On the other hand, people shouldn't be telling other people not to worry about this and that. The computer is a chunk of change and they have every right to be pissed if they got a lemon.
So any way, I was about to pull the trigger on a Sony VAIO F11 series (nice machines), because I was worried about the quality of the G73s, as well as the supply issue, when I happened to drop by my local Microcenter and they had an X2 on display.
Wow, what a nice looking machine, and for the monster that it is, it's actually not too heavy...unlike the P4 brick of a Sager I had years ago. I had gotten a bad impression from the G72s at Best Buy which I thought were horrible, with horrible touchpads, but the G73 is nice. I really like the price point of the X2s, so I'm hoping they get a batch in tomorrow or Friday. I think all Microcenters get their shipments in on Wednesdays and Fridays. -
You are correct KDS-Steeler.. I did purchase one (MicroCenters) and had that problem and had to return it. Don't get me wrong.. that machine is very sweet and I'm just relaying my experience with it. I'm quite aware that not every machine will experience it, I was just going off of what I read and the number of incidents.
Not worrying about anything, just relaying my experience with it - that's it. -
Like Mike said not every unit has problems but some surely did and of course some people are going to be defensive of there purchases to justify them.
It is a fantastic laptop if everything is in working order but there have been some problems like:
Grey screens
Laggy keyboard
Ram issues
Unresponsive touchpad
Random freeze and lockups
Now those are the ones that I know of and there might be more so there is some cuase of concern.
I'm not trying to bash ASUS or anything but there quality control is not as good as it used to be.
I've owned 3 different ASUS laptops in the past and have had no problems.
Maybe they should to some more R&D before releasing there laptops is all I'm trying to say. -

Missing the point. I'm not saying they don't care, as they have proven with replacing all the broken laptops. What I'm saying is in any business you do whatever you can to put a quality product for as cheap as you can produce it. If they check every product out, their going to have to hire more people, and require a longer process for producing and shipping.....
I guess what im getting at is, Give them some breathing room, yes there has been some bad units that shipped, but overall they have proven to be a good company. -
Oh I absolutely agree... they (Asus) make fantastic laptops. I also own a G50VT-X1 and that rig is killer as well. Love it.
Take this for what it's worth: G73 coming to Best Buy?
