For the heck of it, I think I'm going to get the Targus AC Adapter (it's only $26 shipped on eBay). First, I'm pretty sure the APA05US is the correct model to fit a G73JH, correct? Most people seem to agree that I shouldn't have any power issues even with OCing the cpu/gpu on my current 150w adapter, but the Targus is cheap enough that I may as well get the 180w adapter. What say the rest of you - go ahead and get the adapter?

Also, will the adapter fit the socket on my G73JH?

I got the adapter, the tip of the cable coming from the adapter is a universal plug, the whole package comes with L1, L2, L3 adapters for it. L1 is the one you need for the G73. The cable going from the wall plug is a standard 3 prong cable like those for desktop PSUs so getting a 6 ft replacement for the 2ft that comes with the adapter is easy and cheap.

Dallers lives in the UK and got one so it is definitely possible for you to get one. Even if you order from the US, the adapter is rated to work on 120V and 240V, all you'd need is to get a cable that goes from the outlet to the adapter and that is one inexpensive piece of equipment.

Oooh right,I forgot about Dallers :p. (Dallers: Its not true budd, don't believe a thing they say! btw, how did you get one ?)
I've looked on ebay though, there's not one that ships to Europe, and if there were, the shipping fee would kill me.

Look for the targus APA05EU, it is actually a LiteOn PA-1181-08 rebranded by targus so you could look for a 180W LiteOn adapter too.

    Get one!

Hey, you had your signature before I had it. I had my 920XM before you had it. And now I'll have my Targus 180w AC Adapter before you have it... so as you see, I needed to balance things out by having something you had before me. Make sense? ;)

The one you have linked doesn't come with tips, and trust me when I say this. The tips were difficult to find when I searched for them by themselves a couple months ago.

If you happen to find a place to get them then by all means please tell me where.

I would be happy if it were just the L1 tip.

It does come with a tip; it doesn't come with the power cord to plug into the wall.

Then you are good to go. The power cord for the wall is pretty standard, i bought a 6ft cable for mine to replace the oh so short 2ft cable that came with it.

Are you sure about that, as in, you emailed them? Cause their listing clearly states it comes with no tips.

ahaha, you're right, killone. It was kind of buried in the listing that I skimmed. I emailed the seller to see about purchasing the tips. There's no rush as I'm running perfectly fine on my old adapter for now. Thanks for taking the time to point that out. I've never had a universal AC Adapter with multiple tips.

Glad to help when i can, :>. However, it is a shame it comes with no tips, so I wanted to make sure you knew that before buying, unless, of course, you had already emailed them and found out otherwise or something..

I've actually bought one a while back but from Amazon. It's nice to have, but so far the stock adapter works just as good, so it mainly has its use for a secondary adapter, which comes in handy when taking laptop out of the house(i can leave one in the bag). Or when I don't plan on going anywhere for a while, just keeping one in the other room is nice since I like to take the laptop around the house a lot. And the last nice thing is I know if something ever happens to one adapter, I've got another.

I'll never forget the time I left my only laptop adapter at a friend's house once, thankfully he isnt too far away. But something like that would have been perfect for having 2 adapters so I wouldn't have to waste gas driving back over there just for my adapter.

The company emailed me back and said they'd sell one tip only for $6 shipped! So, I'm getting the L1 tip for $6 extra. Good deal! The company is PC.HQ - I've had a great experience with them, so I highly recommend them!

My current adapter seems fine for my modest overclock. However, I'd like to test up to my limit... and that might be 100-105 watts and 80-85 amps for the CPU only. I haven't even hit the GPU's limits yet, but I don't feel comfortable pushing beyond this point with a 150w AC Adapter.

Another advantage of the targus is that it doesn't get as hot as the stock adapter when used. Well, during cold winters it might actually be nice to use the stock one as a toe warmer.

Yah I just noticed that they have a listing with 1 tip now after you posted that.

TARGUS UNIVERSAL NOTEBOOK AC ADAPTER PA-1181-08 APA05US W/ 1 CONNECTING TIP CORD | eBay

I just emailed him to ask if he would sell me just 1 tip lol. We shall see. I didn't want to have to buy a whole other power adapter just to get the tip I lost. Dude you should have seen everyone when I made a thread about replacement tips. Other people couldn't find them either so they were like "what you need them for?" and "you could get it from such and such for only $39". I'd sure hope if I lost my keys for my car I wouldn't have to replace my car :( . I think I will probably just pick up another brick and see if he will sell me an extra tip with it. You have definitely enlightened me. I had no idea he sold the extra tips. Thank you.

Drawbacks of the Targus adapter are size & weight. Also, mine continually comes disconnected at the brick at the slightest bump. Anytime I move my laptop around I have to re-fasten the plug at the brick.

Length is also an issue, but as mentioned, most people probably have a power cable sitting around to extend it a few feet.

I didn't find the targus heavier than the stock adapter, it is bigger though. I also have no problems with the cable not holding in place.

    Tip seems like a L2, you'd need one with a L1 tip.

of course, i could be wrong from just a picture.L1 has a completely round hole, L2 has two grooves on the side, the grooves are noticeable on the picture. Of course, i could be wrong from just a picture.

on my original Targus, the L1 tip works. On my 2nd, it's the L2 that works. :B

Schockie wanted feedback on how my Targus is working for me.

First of all, my Targus took the L1 tip for the G73JH (not the L2 tip like Chastity's second Targus uses).

Second, I had no problems before I got the Targus, and... I have no problems afterward. Just peace of mind that I'm not over stressing my hardware.

Would I recommend the Targus to someone else? Not if you have a 720QM processor. Not if you have a 920XM and don't plan on overclocking. Maybe if you want to overclock the CPU and GPU (but if you're not having problems with the original adapter, then it's not necessary). Definitely if you have custom cooling and want to do some extreme overclocking.

P.S. One perk is I can keep one adapter in my laptop bag and one plugged in at home. However, I haven't taken my laptop away from its desk since I got the Targus. lol

I thought I'd chime in. I have 2 targus' that are the same exact one many users including the one Chastity recommends. I use the L1 tip on both of them - 1 at home and the other at work.

Overall, works great and my system is stable with my XM while my brick is cool. My home one occasionally will be a bit warm on heavy use and gaming but rarely.

My DC power jack went bad after using the L1. I think it just had too much play. After reinstalling the jack I measured both the L2 yellow jack and the L1 black jack and the L1 definitely doesn't put out ~19v .. Maybe half of that while the L2 tip was spot on. I would say use the L2 to ensure proper fitting and avoid the drain on the battery ( mine went completely dead but not a huge loss it lasted about average life span).

I will say when I go to use the L2 tip get a little sizzle and a spark sometimes.. Not sure if anyone else gets that but it's definitely not a comforting sound or sight.

Unless the voltage and fit is spot on it's just not worth the risk.
