I have to apply a fix to a G74SX (the fix that caused the 3DE to be delayed) to the unit I have, so I am in the process of tearing it down, and run a new LVCD cable.![]()
I thought you might like to see some pics. Please note the much more professional installation of the trackpad.
Oh, and the speakers are 1" drivers, so my bad earlier.
Now I need to finish tearing down the lcd panel....
If you have any questions, feel free to pipe up.

Very nice, thanks for the pics!!
Sure am glad Asus gave you a G74 for evaluation, we will learn so much from you!!
Seeing you are now a technician...did you land the job at Asus? -
Yep... in Customer Care as a "Specialist"
I'll be working out of Fremont HQ, and I'll start in Mid September. Frak! No display. Gotta tear down the panel again and check the LVCD connection. Ugh, 3:17 AM, maybe tomorrow. And I have 2 extra screws....
-
Keyboard removal looks like fun. You need to disconnect the entire top panel, and then flip it over to unscrew it. At least it doesn't need the dreaded 2-way tape.
-
I hope the new gig works out like ya!! This requires a move to the west coast too? Wow....2 for one shot!! Congrats again on the CCS position!!
oops....left over screws.... -
Hello and congrats. Can you post screen modell as you are at it Chastity?

Nice job on taking the G74 appart. Any pictures of the cooling or is that still to come?
Would like to see if of asus added a extra copper pipe to the heatsink.
Compared to the G73 is it easy or hard to take appart ? -
Never admit to extra parts when reassembly is complete ;P lol -
I'll bet the 2 extra screws were the ones under the hard drives. Because this has happened to me before.
And grats on your new job. -
thanks everyone on the job thingy!
I figured out where the 2 screws went. One screw for the hdd caddy uses one of the longer ones. So 2x short screws replaced 2 long ones on the lcd armatures.
I need to tear it down AGAIN because the 120Hz output still isn't correct.I hope they sent me the correct cable replacement, and not one of the old ones.

I'm in the middle of prepping to move to California from NY, so I wouldn't expect a vid anytime soon..
However, I could do a pictorial with written instructions, and lots of Arrows.

I did not want to impose, just thought it might be an interesting idea.
But good pics ,showing the innards, and how to avoid breaking something, would definitely make a good "stiky' -
-
Sure, if you also get the NVIDIA shutter glasses and emitter for USB.
-
Will the existing monitor cable in the g73sw work or will I have to buy a new cable?
-
You'll also need a 3D LVCD cable, thx for pointing that out

Chastity can you confirm that screen panel in g74sx is using standard 40 pin connector on back side. Or is it new 50 pin connector? I have made research and all points that all 17.3 inch 120hz capable panels use new 50 pin connector that is not compatible for older models like g73 series. It would be of great help if you could shedd some light on this matter

Hey chastity, i'm looking to replace the screen on my g74 and was wondering if you could walk me through the process. I've studied the G73 tutorial and was thinking it was similar, but i'd like to make sure. Thanks

Guess why the laptop was delayed a month for release?
-
Ok. But I thought that 3D version of g74 is allready out in sale. Can you tell us then what is difference between old and new screen cable connector. Is it 40vs50 pin or something else?
-
No I cannot, as I am not at HQ yet.

Shame it is
