Don't forget to give yourself a G73 banner!

Where do I get one from my good freind?
-
Damn, I lost the thread for all the banners...

The link in my sig, or are we talking about different things?

But fire up a game and wait 10 - 15 minutes for the crash. CoDMW gives around 75c max temp, but it's lucky to last 5 - 10 minutes at times. Bad Company, if I remember right, it was around 5 - 6 crashes over the day playing 6 hours maybe. Even going back through Half Life 2 had it's issues, although this was one of the better titles. Every game I have played has caused the same issue. From older titles to the newer titles.
On the vbios. I don't really care about it to much. I tried it, it's made stability even worse than before, and that's with a roll back (didn't save my vbios, and used the one found here.). But I did purchase the G73 for the reason that drivers are not locked to manufacturer. Clearly it is tho, so maybe AMD/ATI should update there site to reflect this. This issue would have never occurred and become so blown out if drivers were release regular on the Asus support site. -
Again again Again over and over again. Lol maybe not spend so much on it but yes def again
-
Windows 7 sound drivers are pretty complete. If you're not running them already, try removing your Creative or Realtek (try just removing the Creative first) drivers and switch to the Windows 7 drivers and see if that helps.
There's been other conflicts other than the GPU or VBios causing games to crash, unfortunately, the attention to them has taken a back burner to the furor or Furmark and VBios. But if you search the threads you'll find all the info.
Never underestimate the ability for sound drivers to crash a game. -
You didn't see my event log from last night. around 30 gpu crashes in the space of 2 - 3 minutes. had to hard power off. by far the worse on yet.
Agreed, Microsoft drivers do quite well. Creative is long gone.
Today's efforts have proved well actually. Not one major crash. Had a minor audio stutter in game (usually leads to crash), but that was it. Been a lot more stable since removing CCC completely and just running a manual install of VGA driver. Did read something about this (think it was Chastity). All in all though, it was nice to have some sort of stability for the day.
Either way, see how it runs like this through a few games over the next few days or so. -
I'm kinda undecided. I would definitely need a good, long think if I'd buy it again. At the moment I'd probably go for a pimped out version of the m11x due to its portability.
-
In fact, they've had to do three service calls on my machine, can't fix it and am now waiting for them to build me a complete new one for an exchange.
The M11x has faulty hinges. They break in only a few months and Dell refuses to address the issue as they don't want a recall and they want everyone to buy an extended warranty.
I'm personally waiting for Asus answer to the M11x as my G73 has been nothing but sunshine compared to my M11x -
IIt may be a bit early to raise this one from the dead. But I wondering how many of those that said no or otherwise have changed your mind now that the new vbios has been released.
-
So here's the thing. I got mine G73JH-A1 about 5 days ago. It came with the i7-740qm which I am quite chuffed about. Although I did not vote in this poll as I did not have the laptop yet. I can tell you that I would have voted no until yesterday when I stumbled on this forum and came across the vBios fix.
My experience has mimicked Hellcry's pretty much issue for issue. Mine crashed in games constantly with the newer ATI CAT 10.8 but wouldn't using stock drivers, but then I couldn't do any OpenGL stuff in apps ike Photoshop. With the newer vbios, I have been testing extensively and I have not encountered any problems whatsoever. Although my testing is a day and a half old, I am a more than satisfied with the stability of the laptop not just for playing games but for using apps that require good 3d (OpenGL) performance. So I vote YES, but only just. My other issues with the laptop are perhaps not relevant from a gaming perspective. -
Interesting feedback Bikerman. I wonder how many more people will be changing their opinions.
-
I voted undecided and still am. That's because I'm in need of a repasting and I don't know when either:
a) I'll have the time to do it myself
or
b) know a good place to have it repasted that I trust. I would rather not RMA where I am, as the email answers I get from ASUS support are very scary.
Has been more stable, but still I don't get that "rock solid" feeling and the temps are slowly climbing... if I can fix that, then I'll change to "happy owner" -
I would buy this machine again, now that all the bugs are being worked(Major ones already fixed) out. It works great. I can't complain about price or features. The lack of USB3 or Esata doesn't bother me...you get what you pay for, its not like I needed those for my gaming or 3d-dev needs anyway. The machine nicely does what it's supposed to do.

I don't think there's anything better on the market at that price right now. I would buy a different model in a year or so when better models come up in its range. I like it a lot. It is far from perfect but so am I!
-
All the striving for perfection reminds me of all my fellow mac friends who return 3,4,5,6,7 (and more) systems to get the absolutely perfect -- screen (dead pixel, yellow tinge, uneven backlight, viewing angle), hinge, hard drive, trackpad, lid, etc...
Cheers, -
Now that the majority of the G73 issues are solved, anybody can be a happy G73 owner. This is illustrated by the fact that I'm on a rock solid system using bios 211, 10.8 Cats, the new vBios, with no need for a slight OC for stability and fully functional EAX. Not to mention the ability to use reference drivers when they arrive without GSODing.
And the G73's case as a fully working machine is further re-inforced when it survives the rigorous, albeit unrealistic, benchmarking we put it through. There's a reason why they're called synthetic benchmarks, but the point in case is there is no good or bad to it.
In fact the only grievance I have with my G73 is the rapidly degrading stock thermal paste that only a repaste can solve. Don't understand why they had to make everything so hard to access. Guess I was spoiled by the easy access in the Gateway FXs. -
I will buy it again for sure. I like my G73JH. I owned 4 laptops last year. But this one will be with me at least for 1.5 year.

I amended my order this evening. I ditched one of the HDD's for a Crucial C300 128GB SATA III SSD
-
FYI: It's no longer a Yes; only Just but a categorical YES!!
It's not been switched off in 3 days, playing games and rendering with Adobe Premiere and Encoder. Loving it, if only it had USB3 or esata :-( -
You can have eSATA with an optical drive adapter

I used to have a link for it, but now I cannot find it. I know I've also seen a how-to on making one.
