Wanting to do this for awhile.. today was the day.. Embed my Xbox 360 pc wireless hub into my laptop ..
Works great for Steam Big Picture :)

What i am needing to add to my asus g50vt
    [IMG]

Found a place to mount it - this laptop has the option for a TV tuner minipci card, spot is perfect for it.. a few snips and i manufactered a mounting bracket and hotglue does the rest.

Wires Run soldered on (note i do lose the use of one my external usb headers, but i've got plenty on this laptop). not pictured here is some tape and insulating hotglue to hold the wires and prevent shorts.

    Success!

The button to sync a controller just happend to be in a faux vent beneath the laptop, easy access to click with a pin or other thin pokey thing :)

now all i need to carry with me is my wireless controller :)

For those wondering, it would work with the G73JH too, it doesn't have the connector for the tv tuner, but it does have the soldering spots for it. Someone on NBR already successfully soldered a micro usb adapter for a wireless mouse in his JH. I know the SW doesn't have the spots to solder the tv tuner connector though. I don't know for the latest G series either.

I like this sort of modding, are there no bluetooth controllers out there that support pairing with the internal card?

its not so much no blue tooth, its that microsofts xbox 360 wireless controller works with the Xbox 360 and with the usb wireless dongle that they sell. Many of the current games coming out work specifically with the xbox360 controller.

add onto that Steam BigPicture and your set :)

Curious, how's the range/reception with your install? Looks like you still have a decent length of wire inside... I had seen this done a couple years ago, and was going to do it, but then the guy that did it was having intermittent dropouts as he discovered the antennae was in the long USB cord... kept me from messing with it ever since as I often set the laptop across the room by the tv when playing big screen mode.

    Cool mod!

Well it certainly would not work on a metal encased machine, but as plastic the range should not be too badly reduced.

The range is good.. i didn't really see anythign in the cord that looked it it might be used as an antennae. the only real thing i saw in teh cord was the magnetic shield "paper"

it does have 2 grounds on it.. one for the case and one for the USB ground, i soldered the case ground to the express pci card casing (ground) and that may be what it is
using to double as an antenna.

the Range is good.. about the same as my xbox 350 range.

with the 15.6" screen though the range isn't much of an issue. i typically play sitting in front of it on the table etc..

when hooking it up to the TV though the range is still good enough to have it by the TV while on the couch 15 ft away.
