Hi all, new here and hopeful new g73 owner in the near future.

    I had a g50vt-x5 and loved it.

Anyway I have made a couple of calls to best buy trying to glean information on their anticipated stock dates and specs of available G73 models that they will be getting.

I would greatly appreciate anything contributed to the thread and will ad to this post.

I assume there some in the same boat as I who are looking at the long delay on pre-orders and thinking it may be more convenient to just hit up a local Best Buy. As to that, I have gathered the following information from a sales rep at the largest Best Buy in the western region.

It appears that they will be getting only one SKU in store and that it will for all intents and purposes be the A2 model even if it is called something else.

I was told that it will be $1600
    i7 720
    1 tb 7200rpm
    DVD+/- combo
    8gb ram
    1920x1080 screen

This same rep stated that they would be in stock on the 6th of March

I have been told before that the model is set to be availble in their system on either the 28th or 1st...perhaps this is when it will be on their website.

I am persoanlly wanting a Blu ray drive, so may have to wind up ordering from somewhere else anyway.

There may or may not be different versions available on their website or in store at a later date.

G73JH-A2 for $1600 in Best Buy? That price seems a bit high...

yeah when I was in Best Buy a week ago I don't recall seeing any laptops over $1200...still that price for the a2 is standard across online retailers right now.

And I usually don't buy the extended warranty on anything there. But I do on their laptops. I suggest you do that too. Of course, by the time you've done that, you're better off calling Xotic/Gentech/Excaliber because you'll get better warranty and personalized service. I mean, it's nice to be able to bring the lappy into a traditional brick-n-mortar store, but the BB Goons can't fix your lappy, so it gets shipped out of state anyways. So what's the difference really?

Either way, it's a great laptop, and I am sure you'll be happy with it, wherever you bought it.

not making much sense but just passing along info...

last sales guy I talked into looking up the g73 came up with a 15.6" model
    720 i7
    6g ddr3
    500g hd
and "most likely an nvidia 330m"

    release date of 3/7

If they release it with a good screen, it will be the first laptop I've ever seen at Best Buy with a screen that wasn't junk.

yeah, that's what I though...although video card is different.

I also did hear from a website sales person it looked like they would get 2 different models, but based on the way Asus names models it doesn't seem to make much sense that they would have a 15.6" screen in a g7 model

The best buy warranty is bad, i have experienced very results from them, when i have had issues, i just wish they would have to always send it to Kentucky! Why can't it just be done in the store, aren't they suppose to be geeks and order parts there? lol sarcasm of course. I have never seen a Asus with higher resolution of 1440x900 from best buy, but in many ways i do miss having to just walk into the store and get something fixed that way, instead of going nuts making calls, best buy does work on other machines but of course you got to fork over the cash. Only one thing i hate hate about best buy is that they only give you 14 days to get their warranty now!!

Maybe in your local Best Buy, but not here in Iowa nor on BestBuy.com as of right now...

In my experience, RZ coupons are never for the actual computer, just for accessories...

True, but the movers coupon I believe works, and there are occasionally a few others. Plus bing.com is 8% which would cover the freaking sales tax here in NY.

I was considering Microcenter, but because there is one in NYC, we can plagued with the sales tax again in upstate NY.

Is the BB info just speculation? Or does anyone work there and confirm when the unit is actually arriving?

The last movers coupon I saw was only for Computer Accessories. The latest bing.com cashback amount I saw (today) was 5%?

How about it? Any Best Butt employees on here that could enlighten the teeming masses? I'm going to go to the one near my work tomorrow at lunch and see what they can see...

You could, but there's so many stores that I would suspect many to opt out of paying shipping and picking up in person. Granted, Best Buy is not always a bad place to shop, it's just particular stores the particular people with particular ways. Ya.

Best Buy cannot force you to buy a optimized laptop if you don't want it. You simply tell them you want one without it. -Former Best Butt (GTO_Greg)employee (worked in digital life, not computers but I still know this)

Not all Best Buy employees are stupid, infact at the store I worked at there were alot of guys there that were over qualified by far with their knowledge. It just depends on the store and the people in it.

I bought mine at Micro Center. I could have waited and kepting working at best buy to get my discount but the discount on laptops is usually less than $50 anyways due to the low markup.

Funny thing you mention about mark ups...the Asus G73JH-X2 is $1377 for employees @ Microcenter. There is huge margin on this laptop it seems.

Nope, not insulting the people, just the store... I tease because I love Best Buy in general. However, I would never, ever let the Geek Squad touch a machine; I insist on a sealed, new-in-box machine and will not buy any of their 'optimization' packages...

That still isn't a huge mark up. Plus, the mark up will vary depending on the store. That is basically paying the same price for the laptop from a online retailer that offers free shipping (add the $100 or so for tax)

Well, I can say that every store in Microcenter's chain offers $1377 to their employees for this laptop. It doesn't vary from store to store. Oh and btw, that price is still %5 more than what Microcenter bought it for from ASUS. I'm a former employee and during my time there selling laptops, I rarely ever saw markups that large on laptops MC offered. I usually saw $10-50 markups with a few being loss leaders. If you still think $120 margin is not large, then let's agree to disagree.

Idk about you, but if I can get an A2 for 1525 from xotic/gentech(paypal discount)... that's worth a few more days/weeks. But I live in TAXachussetts, so Best Buy is never an option.

HOWEVER, i think the a2 is 1699 on the egg. Really being driven by supply/demand it seems.

Yeah but funny that their pets actually have better health care because the owners have the choice to take their pets to the best vets.

Not to mention their politicians when push comes to shove, shove thier universal healthcare and go where its the best.......Just ask Danny Williams the premier of Newfoundland who is probably still recovering from his heart surgery he had done in Miami, Florida, not Miami Newfoundland.

Funny that when asked why he said.....
"This was my heart, my choice and my health."

"I did not sign away my right to get the best possible health care for myself when I entered politics," Williams said.

Just another politician with a do as I say not as I do attitude.

I'll happily take my 10% sales tax and still choose my doctor.

Best Buy has had it on their business website for at least a couple weeks:
    A2: http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb...etail&showAddButton=true&productID=BB11085014

    A1: http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb...etail&showAddButton=true&productID=BB11075529

Note: they have never been in stock, always listed as "Availability: Usually ships in 1 - 2 weeks"

Earlier they also had one or two from the X series, but they have been removed.

My local Best Buy said they should be getting them on March 7th, but no guarantees.

My favorite line from my local Best Buy when I asked them was: "We used to carry them, but we're out of stock." To which I replied, "No you didn't, they're brand new." The folks at mine, of course, had no idea what it was nor where to look.

Unfortunately, I can't order from them:

Welcome to the Best Buy site dedicated to the specific needs of Business, Government and Education customers.

To place an online order, you must first create a personal account by calling an Account Manager "

I will, however, continue to watch bestbuy.com and my local store for a sighting of the rare G73JH-A1...

Ugh hey guys been reading your forums a lot the past two weeks, as I am desperately in need of a new gaming lappy. My Gateway pfx 6860 died hardware failure with the GPU. I would love to get my hands on this beast as would the rest. I could not wait to see if BB would have it but they do list this,
    Asus

What do you think as a good alternative. Funny how the links show it under business thou.
