After a few glitches my G73JH is now running quite well. I still have a few issues however.
I do seem to experience the keyboard issue once in a while. At first I thought it was me, I am horrible at typing. I got my daughter to try it, she types at 80 words a minute and she thought is was great. I have done a lot of reading on this board about this issue and I am wondering if the dropped keys could be a combination of things. It seems to me the keys are harder to push then my Dell was, so maybe once in a while the key is not pressed down enough to work. The other thing that occurred to me is it might have something to do with the rhythm of the typing. Some typist get into a rhythm which might be beneficial, as opposed to myself, I have no rhythm, no rhythm might contribute to keys being struck to close together.
My touchpad was horrible but I now have it working reasonably well. I played with the settings and managed to improve it greatly. I am using the 15.0.11.0 driver which I got off the Asus website, it is the one they have up for the JW version of the G73. I turned off many of the settings for the touchpad. I also think how I was using it was part of the problem. Vertical scrolling was not working very well. On my old machine my finger would be almost off of the right edge while scrolling and it worked fine. This technique does not work well on the G73 though. I find that my finger needs to be completely on the touchpad for the scrolling to work consistently, and yes I did play around with the width of the scroll area. I really like the momentum > glide function. It still will once in a while stop responding all together. I am quite sure it is a software issue, since turning it off and then back on brings it back. I also think it might have something to do with the webpage you happen to be on, more testing is needed.
I really want for this machine to work properly. Let's face it, for the price point no one else comes close.
Cheers

I am also a G73jw owner myself and still have the keyboard lag issue that I experienced on my G73jh. Oh well most of the time I use an external keyboard and mouse. When I do have to type on my laptop keyboard I just have to slow stuff down and watch really closely for missed letters. Fn + f9 is also my friend since I have larger hands and end up bumping the touchpad nearly every time I press a key.
Beyond disabling the touchpad in the BIOS there really hasnt been any other workaround that has fixed the keyboard lag for me. -
I asked about the issue today. They are still working on it and they believe they know exactly what it is and will issue an updated driver to fix it. They are confident that it can be fixed with drivers. The part that still puzzles them is that it doesn't happen with every laptop and they cannot explain this.
-
Wow that's really great news. I can't wait for this issue to be resolved!

I updated to the 15.1.9.0 Synaptic driver awhile back and admittedly the touchpad issue has gotten better. I'm only had one or two instances where it got a little wonky but for the most part it's been fine.
-
Just wondering, if the update came from asus, we gonna lost the two finger scroll which came with the stock non-asus synaptic drivers?
-
Well, I haven't received anything to test and I don't even know if I will. I'm betting there will be no two finger scrolling in the fix... sadly. I love that feature but I will do without it if I can get rid of missed keys.
-
well, if the real one solves the problem, glad to install and get rid the feature. It's still easy activate it using this software: Two-singer-scroll
the only requirement is to have a synaptic driver installed
I hope not, but I'm sure we gonna lost the feature by a license situation

The JW drivers made i worse on my JH. I couldnt use the touchpad at all. It was crazy flying all over the place. Doing random scrolls, and random zooming.
. Maybe its a hardware issue with mine.

I just got my laptop back from RMA because of the touchpad issue, mine was obsurdly horrible. So far so good, doesn't give me faith that it's a driver/bios issue. Might have to RMA to get it fixed.
-
Which driver did they give you? What was yours acting like prior to the RMA?
CHeers & Thanks -
I view it a lot like the GSOD problem. It probably is a hardware issue of some kind, but it can be fixed by managing the keyboard buffer or polling rates better. The driver will be more of a workaround than a fix, but if it works, I'll take it and run.

Did they physically replace the touchpad?
-
I wouldnt use this software, because had a lot of trouble while using it (jumping etc..). I would recommend to use Synaptics Scrybe software and the latest driver. Two Finger Scroll is also avaiable there and the touchpad seems to be much better.
