    Asus created an innovative solution, it's classic showmanship. Attention getting at it's best.

    Even if they only ship a limited number of GX700's, they are the wildest laptops to make it to production.

    It's totally awesome.

    Besides, you can't carry your eGPU around with you. You would need a whole eGPU set up at work, home, and whatever destination you work from.

    With the Asus GX700, you only need the cooler at each work location, that's gotta be a lot cheaper.

    Yeah, but then i would have to spend some money on more docks. And btw, no, i wouldn´t carry an egpu around but i wouldn´t carry that cooling dock also.

    Samot, yeah, I don't even like carrying my AC adapter around, and purchase a couple of extra ones so I can leave them at client sites.

    I would imagine the Asus GX700 dock isn't going to be cheap.

    It's a cool concept, it just comes down to how much sacrifice you make to the mobile product away from the dock. It could be quite fun to play with though.

    doesnt it make u wonder how it'll work? the back showing where it'd connect so fluid can go into laptop to cool it down, originally i thought its just heatsink of laptop to heatsink of the dock to redirect heat but thats not the case lol.

    what happens when its water cooled and people unplug it right off..

    I don't imagine that is possible, there is clips and anchors on the panel at the bottom of the watercooling thing that attaches to the laptop, it doesnt appear to be possible to take the laptop off without intentionally trying to.

    i guess main issue would be, how do they get all the liquid out of laptop? in order to keep laptop cool there must be sufficient water pressure so thats first thing, unless docking would mean reducing water volume inside the dock by replacing with something solid, then that volume would go into laptop hence no drop in pressure. but how do they get the fluids out of laptop without losing any lol

    It could be left in there, especially if the water pipes/tubes/whatever are routed through the internal radiators, it would help with the cooling.

    It looks like a quick release setup, the water would stay in the tubes and just increase the thermal capacity of the system mostly (since it's not pumped).

    It also looks really secured into place and there will be some switch those latches trigger to allow the higher clocks etc. Once that goes off the 180W throttle would kick in.

    GX700 does look quite interesting, I wonder if there's any performance being generated in relation to its temperature reduction.

    I don't think I can call it a notebook..... And with that in mind - for the money they'll ask for it, I can build a desktop setup, out of the sci-fi movies. All without Asus's usual after production problems, that plague their every new model releases.

    A lot of NBs aren't really portable if we go by this definition, but there are many users who simply want a desktop replacement that doesn't use as much space as desktop.

    I think the poster meant that new ASUS models are often plagued by QC issues. The G751 had wifi connection issues, sound issues, the still-ongoing USB disconnect for the left-side USB ports, massive screen bleeding.

    No new information on the new GX700? So maybe they are releasing it after the MSI and Sager models. We actually have no information about the type of GTX 980 too (120W,150W, 180W,200W etc)

    The TDP will be switched depending on docked or not of course, with a decent dock the TDP should be pretty high.

    Well a rendering of it at least, shows a decent sized battery and that the primary contact is made via the water blocks with the air cooling sitting on top of that plate.

    A mux allows the internal display to be wired into the dedicated gpu (for performance) or into the igp (for battery life) it's a hardware switch so usually requires rebooting to flip.
