You know that nice blue light at the back of the ASUS G-series G73. well mine is starting to fade. is that normal, can it be replaced?

It probably needs cleaning, I noticed mine seemed dim and when I last disassembled I found that the dirt builds up under the screen and covers the light, its not very bright as it is so the dirt does not help.

How would one clean it, if you don't mind me asking.? I would guess it's not as simple as just dusting it out with a can of air duster

If you can get some thin under there to clean it that will do it, as I said I did it during a dissassmbly and it was pretty grubby!

when I had taken the top cover off to look at it last night, removed the battery undo some screws, I could see a clear film of blue plastic, are you saying I have to get inside there? or clean the blue plastic strip ?

    from the inside or out?

Hmmm I am confused by what you said, if you tilt the screen backwards all the way and look the light is simply under the screen you can probably clean it without needed to dissassemble.

Imo the light is still not very bright anyway it is just made as a feature and I dont think it uses much wattage to power.

I can see that, I've also tried taking it part to get a better look at it. dusting it out did nothing, wiping the blue film area under the screen did nothing too. it's fading away to the point that you can almost no longer see it. it just started happening slowly over the last two or three months now. but now you really notice it's going away.

anyone else have a solution to this mystery of the faded light. I think it's a back light but I am not sure what the technical term is.

would be kind of clue if you could replace it with a black light like in the tv show lost, the hatch door had this black light that would light up the room and show all this crazy painted writing on the walls you could only read if you had a black light. you could write crazy messages on the walls of your office and only you could read them LOL. Mind you the only problem with that would be you'd see all the food and scary matter that's now on your notebook and it would make you into germ freak. that wouldn't be a good thing. I'd just like to figure out why my blue light is not really as bright anymore.

is there a control option I don't know about that's turns it down?

Are you talking about the light in the Asus logo at the back of the screen?

I think it's EL wire and it degrades over time.
