I've been looking at laptops and I've started to think that the ASUS G73JH-A2 seems like a good gaming laptop for $1600 or so. I just wanted to know iff anyone else has this and what there thoughts on it are? Thanks.

This forum is 75% posts about that laptop. If you're far too busy to look just above or below your newly created thread; let me summarize for you.

They're awesome, better than all of the competition for price/performance/cooling/capacity/quality/style/quietness.

...unless you get a bad 5870m in yours and it craps the bed playing DAO, ME2, GTA4 or anything using new ATI drivers.
If you do get a bad 5870, there are some fixes to try here, or you can RMA.

There are 3 different screens on different g73 versions.

The higher end g73s (a1/a2/x5) use an *excellent* hannstar 1080p panel.

The best buy models (rbbx05) use either a LG or AUO panel at 1600x900 and quality on those ranges from good to awful. Since you're looking at an A2, you'll be getting the nicer hannstar and don't need to worry about it.

It seems like you're fishing for possible negatives so you can avoid buyers remorse. Here would be the ones I'd caution you with:
battery life = portable UPS only
    not a thin laptop
    usb3, esata, firewire missing
some people who buy the BB model dislike the screens, a lot.
some people get a click when they press on the palm rest and let go
some people have stability issues with their 5870m cards
some people lose their keyboard backlight when flashing to the newest bios.
the last 3 can be warrantied through asus.

They are wrong, it's LED, and it (the Hannstar) is beautiful.

Just crossed the 1month mark with my A2 and I have absolutly no regret whatsoever. This thing is just pure awesomeness gathered into a cool looking case.

Man now that I finally decide to buy it no one seems to have it in stock. How much worse is the Best Buy model it's cheaper and they actually seem to carry it?

Many sellers including Xotic PC have the G73JH A1 or A2 in stock.

The BestBuy Model is still an awsome model and it has the same Mainboard / CPU / 5870m the only difference is it has a lower rez screen 1600x900 instead of the 1920x1080 which gives all games higher FPS at the loss of less picture quality also the BB model doesn't have the second 500GB HD or the bluetooth and it has a lower pixel webcam 1.3 vs 2.0 if you can live with these things then its a great deal for $1249.99 vs $1600+ for the A2.
I bought the BB model myself to save the money because I wanted to pop in my OCZ Agility 2 240GB SSD and if you dont like the screen you can do what I did and buy the A1/A2 1080p screen for 140 bucks and it only took 20 minutes to trade it out.
Another reason I didnt buy the A1 / A2 is I dont like the glossy screen and I bought the Matte replacement one, I hate refections in my screen!

Hello. I also want to buy an Asus G73jh from B&H photo video because I live in Romania and they are the only ones who send items here.
Anyways, I have a question. I want to buy the A1 which has a bluray drive. I noticed that there are some mistakes on tech specs on these models. Are there any other differences between the a1 and the a2 beside the bluray drive? It is stated there that they dont use LED backlit display, which is misleading, since I knew that both use the LED technology.
    Thank you in advance.
PS: Did any of you guys play Starcraft 2 on this notebook? How does it perform at max resolution and Ultra settings?
