Hello;p I have G73jh-A1, the latest revision(the one before it was discontinued). I have DDR 1333 stock, 1080p screen and etc. Only i was having the the Atheros wifi which has very very high latency. That's why i decided to buy Intel 6300n. I bought also a 3rd antenna, and then i because i will had to open the beast i decided to change the stock thermal paste;p

Looked and looked, and yeah Coolaboratory liquid ultra!
An improvement to their previous version: "Liquid metal pro". I was using AS5 for ages, so i decided to make a change. I have made a simple temp benchmark so here is the process and results(i am in a hurry;p)

Besides liquid ultra i also bought Shin-Etsu X23-7783D because i didn't know if cpu uses also a copper headsink. Just in case-because i am not home..

Yeah you can see how much dust has blocked the heatsink fins...and i only have it for 3months. Pretty good although. I cleaned it, repaste it, and put it back. The paste is liquid metal, its gallium basically and it corrodes aluminum. That's why i used much caution. Applying was easy on both gpu and cpu(for protective reason they have a protective film from factory-at least mine). So much better because this paste is more dangerous than dropping the laptop in the water, because it is corrosive, liquid and conductive! Also my warranty has gone now, yeah...at least if i break only the screen maybe i can get a replacement;p

    After:

    Min temps
    before:
    cpu 43
    gpu 53

    after:
    cpu 40
    gpu 48

    furmark:
before: gpu temp: 106+(didn't push it more)

after: gpu temp: 81 (maybe it could rise a bit more but it was stable)

prime95 all cores no mem test:
    before: cpu temp: 75
    [IMG]

    after: cpu temp: 67
    [IMG]

    black ops:
settings: maxxed out(still it doesn't use all the gpu)

    before: gpu temp: 100

    after: gpu temp: 81

Also i use a custom clocks on my vbios, is the gary one modified to allow overdrive, and my clocks and voltages at high performance are stock 700/1000 1.15v game, 700/1000 1.05v high perf, 450 or 350/don't remember 0.95v video, 150/300 battery. I don't remember exactly but i can post it, though i could get 2 hours heavy usage, 3 standby, and now it can go more. also i my ebay-used 6300n has internal prob, i am gonna send it back..(and the locations i putted the extra antennas is worthless. Though i can easily move them. Has anyone 6300n on theirs g73? :)

congrats for successful repaste and additional atenna... but ur furmark is pretty useless... you should let it run for more than 10 mins to see the result... if so... ull get higher than 81... probably it will reach 88+... a retest would be perfect for it... anyways.. i guess you're the only one that has 6300 on G73... :D

not much space when you are living in uni campus;p bed, desk, i used all space i needed;p

and adamski07, very good apprx. temp running furmark is 89 for 10 minutes...something impossible with the previous paste
    http://img42.imageshack.us/i/fur10x.jpg/

Also did you removed the protective gpu/cpu film on your g73?

it depends on ambient temp, settings on furmark, vbios settings and also this paste needs 24hours cure time;p so it is not a consistent comparsion..the only thing i can say, its that temps are like no before! Waiting for crysis 2 so we can overclock a little;p but anyway did you removed the protective film that its on the gpu??
    edit:
I made another run now: 84oC at 16minute without any interruption..it seems the paste is curing

thats good to hear... nope I didn't removed it...

EDIT : Also, on running furmark test, Post FX, Xtreme burning and 8x msaa is a must...

What is that protective film on the gpu? I know there's one added on the cpu also, and what is that sticky silicone stuff they add around it that sticks to the heatsink?

I need to purchase a new one.

When I sent mine back for rma they had repasted my gpu and cpu, so I had to basically take her apart again and repaste.

During the process the tech's over at cali made such a mess repasting I had to basically throw the film out since it tore up into pieces while I was in the process of cleaning the paste off.

basically the film is to protect cpu and gpu capacitors lying around the cpus from the paste. Good pastes are always semi to full contactive..semi by means that they act like capacitors. When i was cleaning the past i haven't any problem with the film...it was easy to clean with pure alcohol;p

Considering the less-than-optimal polish on the heatsinks, liquid or thin TIMs are not optimal compared to viscous ones, like ICD7, since you may have scratches and such that need to be filled in. Also, why use anything that is corrosive or conductive when there are other options that work just as well and do not have these inherent issues?

Im not speaking about the paste lol I have paste, I have like 5 different brands. I'm speaking about that silicone rubber that goes around the gpu that protects the capacitors from the heat sink.

Chastity, Bbsically i have used all the time AS5. Now some years have passed so i wanted to try something new. I also got Shin Etsu as i said in my first post. I would like to try ICD7..next time;p and yeah, heatsinks' surface is like junk..a mirror finish would improve

FlowCpu, i have not idea what type/brand is that film...it's very thin, and its like electrostatic film used to protect electronics. Though you can leave the main cpu uncovered and cover only the capacitors which are laying next to cpu by any plastic film if you are too worried. Just cut it it the correct shape. To tell you the truth i have never crossed this type of film on cpu, mainly because i think its only used in laptops.

jeanarchie, my toolset is Jackly 38 in 1 search at ebay and you will find it. About 1$ but aware they are not very complete;p You can have doubles, and triples...so get 2 or 3 sets to get a complete set;p I personally have 2 and i am missing 1(got another one that it wasn't supposed to be in this set-so i guess no loss;p) and i have broken the thinnest one. Not like forged titanium, but they do their job..and btw get also a normal philips type in longer length(to reach all screws of G73)

Btw i made another long run with even higher settings on furmark and i get 79oC...i am really impressed. As you pushing this paste it gets even better;p
