i have red a thread in here by dallers that made me happy to be hoenst, because my screen is scratched (by mistake) and i didnt know that i can replace the lcd by myself ....
i also think that asus wouldnt replace the lcd because i sscratched it ( or can i give it to them ? as my laptop still under warranty).
my question is i want the same exact lcd that i have now but i cant find any trusted website, i also cant find how to apply the new lcd(and how to remove the old one).
if you know someone who did can you post me pictures or video step by step for how to do it ?
OMG IF THIS HAPPEND YOU WILL BE THE BEST PERSON IN THE WORLD !
because it has been like that for like 2 months and it start getting annoying plus i had a random white vertical white lane on the left of the lcd and the scratch is on the right so it is extremly annoying !
please help![]()

My two cents I have actually decided to keep my screen
its crap 900p, angles are awful and colour is dull but its bright and it works and I dont really see the point in me spending out as I may actually consider an upgrade early 2012 and its already August.
In your case it sounds like you need to get your screen sorted. I personally dont recommend you do it yourself but its entirely your choice, I am quite experienced in Hardware but laptop screens are not really my speciality or would I enjoy replacing one and I would rather tear apart an entire computer than replace a screen because me and pins and stuff - eek.
Even so the replacement is quite straight forward but you are much better off if within warranty sending it in to be done, if it is within the first year you should be covered by accidental warranty are you not? and then its free.
P.s Chastity will be along with some advice shortly as well -
but the accedental warranty is for spilled water or burn or stuff like that not for scratching the screen XD
what you are saying i can give it to asus and they replace it ?
how much time should it take ? considering i am living in california ....
chastity might know since he work with asus))
i am still waiting for chastity ...... please come faster XD -
ASUS Service (North America)
This may be of help. Did Asus support tell you are not covered by the Accidental Damage 1 year warranty in this case? Did you register for it?
As Dallers said - in the first year you can drop it, etc and be convered.
BTW Chastity is not a dude -
i know shes a girl, also i didnt register it for the accidental warranty
but i still have like 6 months....
also if just lets say asus got it, should i remove the SSD and the RAM upgrades and THE WIFI and everything that i installed in the laptop ? or it doesnt matter ? -
It's ... not really complicated. Find the youtube gentech (?) video of the teardown, and then remove the appropriate screws on the bezel around the screen and replace the screen. I've you've ever held a screwdriver in your hand before, you can do it.

i repasted the cpu and gpu myself, i opend the laptop 100% !, but i didnt open the lcd because i didnt need to ....
also i need some pictures just to make sure and/or video shows me how to take the lcd off, also i want to know if i can give it to asus or i should buy a new one, it doesnt matter for me either one i just want the fastest way. -
Not sure, but I think re-pasting the CPU voids your warranty. Also, Asus offers service to ppl without warranty so it's likely that they have the exact screen you want and the expertise to replace it.... All for small price..... or not
-
you have already disassembled it the the CPU and GPU level, just a tad more or you already have full access to the panel already
If you decided to RMA the unit, my advice is to remove all of your upgraded parts and put the stock ones back in. -
OMG ! so i have to open the laptop again ?! to remove the 8 extra gb that i put ? because i put it at the last stick because i know i wont change the ram anymore but i will upgrade so i kept the last one empty (the easiest one under the keyboard) !! so i have to remove the 8gb and the ssd and the wi-fi .....
that is alot of work i am not planning to do this.
is it a must do thing ? or it is just for safety ? -
you want to remove upgraded parts because you may not get them back. if they replace the mobo, they may put in stock memory
-
but i am replacing the LCD why would they remove the motherboard ! ?
-
you could put in if you want but i just keep them with me to avoid any trouble or lost that may or may not occur and save my time and effort. Its stated in the RMA email if I recalled right.

The problem isn't from expecting people to do the sensible thing. The problem comes from people DOING dumb things.
To Chastity ! others are welcome too :D
