Hey guys, well I'm up and running again after another full wipe of the SSD and a clean install of W7. That being said I'm actually able to use CCC 10.6 without any GSOD issues and my frame rates have increased about 15%, however so has my heat :( When I play Borderlands maxed @ 1920X1080 I'm hitting about 85-87*C on the GPU and I know that it's only 85-87 but it's the Unreal Engine so I know it's an extremely easy engine to run as I use it all day long at work. That being said I haven't GSOD'd yet so should I worry about the repaste? My CPU temps are good at 75*C loaded during renders but if I take it apart for the GPU I will do the CPU as well. I plan on using MX-3 just as a side note.....discuss.

If I had a tube of thermal paste next to me, I'd repaste in a hamster's heartbeat.

If anything repasting will get you even temps on the 3 temp sensors on the gpu idling. With MX3 I idled at 60C in a 27C room. Furmark maybe 89.5 max.

    Here's mine with mx-3

If you are confident enough to take it apart I would say go ahead and repaste. It made HUGE difference in my case.

I went from around 90C average in borderlands to the mid 60's. My max temp after hours of gaming is 76C after repaste, regardless of game.

Yeah, I'z gonna do it. I keep seeing things about buying new thermal pads as well. Anyone have a link to which ones I need? I jinx'd myself because I just GSOD'd in the middle of a boss fight...lame

Alright.....maybe not....I just watched a vid on how to do it and while I'm mechanically inclined it looks like you literally have to rip this thing apart.....WTH....you have to "flatten" the keyboard back out, really? Could they have made a worse design?

They were pretty rough with the keyboard. Take your time to remove it and it won't be that bad.

anything over 80'C including gaming is a bad sign. I certainly would do a repasting.

I have MX-3 here in the desk, it's what I used on my i7 920, 5870, and my Asus X58 Board and it worked WONDERS

Then you probably shouldn't play any newer games on this machine by that logic. The g73, if pasted properly will can and probably will get up to almost 89-90 degrees Celsius if pasted properly while playing SCII...which coincidentally is about what Furmark should hit if done properly....sometimes even lower if you can do really awesome pasting.

Hey guys, after a few mins of Furmark and new BIOS, vBIOS, and CCC 10.8 I'm hitting 78/90/86....I'm guessing this is as good as it's gonna get, or atleast within a couple *C of it anyway, right?

Don't feel bad, if I were to do the same test, I'd hit 105-110C. I had a thermal shutdown last night while running the FF14 Benchmark, which is way less stressful than Furmark if I understand correctly.

My system is basically unusable, but yours is pretty much okay.

I had my laptop lock up playing Fallout3 today- reran Furmark, and my temps climbed up to 100c after 8minutes. Going to Microcenter to buy some ICD7 after work Tuesday.

I am starting to get pissed off, I spent all this dough on a box, I didn't expect to have to go through all this.

I have to say I'm wicked thankful I'm so lucky, I just don't understand how a company as large as ASUS doesn't have a QA department. If it weren't for the big G on these boards I would have sent this back and went back to a desktop.

IC-7 Diamond has been proven to be the best in several studies. Also, if you all think you have bad systems, that ain't nothing. I have gotten up to 110C in SCII  at high settings

110? Thats very good news , You can now play SCII and boil eggs at the same time! Better yet, use it to grill meat, might as well make use of the cool looking grills! :)

I don't think the shack would have it, best bet would be a local computer store and even then they would prolly have to order it as they all use the cheap crap lol
