once in a while the touch pad becomes really unresponsive and hard to use. I have to reboot the computer.. I have updated the Vbois but nada.... and I installed new touch pad drivers but nothing.. any help?
-
this happens when you push the touchpad too hard (cleaning), when it becomes wet or when near a strong magnetic field - reboot solves it for some reason. This was a property of all touchpads I had so far...
otherwise, try cleaning it and edges around, look for strong magnetic materials or electric fields (even wifi could do that if reflected right) -
Latest synaptics and ATK drivers will help if its software related and turn off all the extra options ie. Pinch zoom, two finger scrolling etc. -
Also, there is a specific software package (ATK, ATI and synaptic) that fixes the problem for many...

so far the best I could do is to keep my moodpad running... No problems now.. I pined it.. -

I did 2 stupid things yesterday. The first one was to jinx it by saying i had a perfectly working G73, which i had. THe second one was to install another synaptics drivers since i didn't have the multi-touch functions with the asus 15.2.16 one.
Anyways i went to 15.2.7 from synaptics. I don't really care for the disable when mouse is plugged in option. However if i use fn+F9, i get this message and nothing is displayed in the "safe desktop".

Any way to fix this? This doesn't seem to be a G73 only related issue as far as i'm concerned. I tried 15.2.7 on my n50 and i got the same message. The TP still works, the message popping every 10 mins or so is pretty annoying though.
EDIT: Oh and i don't consider shutting down the windows service responsible for the message a fix, more like a workaround which i'd like to avoid. -
That's naughty programming on Synaptics' part....services are not allowed to interact with the desktop, but that service is trying to.
Did you view the message? -
First time, yup. Unticked the show me the message box but i still get this with no message this time. I'd like the goodness of multi-touch without this. I'll go back to the asus synaptics if i have to but i consider this as my last resort. I get the same message on 15.2.11 and 15.2.20 didn't install properly when i tried it (as in no synaptics tab in the mouse options). I could just stop pressing fn+F9 but i don't consider that a fix either...

@tijo got the same message if i use FN+F9
guys what is the difference between the Synaptic 15.2.11.1 and Synaptics v15.2.7? -
15.2.11.1 is from a laptop manufacturer (don't remember which one) while 15.2.7 is directly from synaptics. If you don't mind multitouch and don't want the message, 15.2.16 from Asus fixed it for me.

thx tijo!! but on asus synaptics version is V15.0.11.0

My touchpad has had issues from day 1, but I finally opened up the laptop by removing the front 3 screws and popping up under the touchpad area. I found a section of the film under the touchpad was kind of hanging down or bowed out from the touchpad, and I used a butter knife to push that film up against the touchpad again.
Since doing that, I have not had any issue with the touchpad again. I do believe the issue with these touchpads is physical and not necessarily driver related, as evidenced by people removing tape, placing wedges inside their case having success in resolving their issues.
In my case, my touchpad issues would pop up when I would type on the keyboard and put pressure on/around the touchpad. After typing, the touchpad would only recognize pressure on the edges of the touchpad as evidenced by moodpad (even touching the middle of the pad would only show pressure on the left or rightmost edge) and only pounding the pad or pressing hard on the edges of the pad would resolve the issue and make the pad work again. I believe this was due to the film under my pad making contact with the chassis, and pushing the film back up and flat under the pad again resolved the issues for me.
I highly recommend investigating a physical solution to your touchpad issues instead of expecting a driver fix to resolve it. Disassembly only requires removal of 3 screws and using a knife to pry the front edge of the laptop away from the wrist-rest, so it's really not difficult to investigate/fix. In fact, When I popped my wrist rest up my touchpad INSTANTLY responded perfectly when compared to my earlier experience.
I hope this helps others who are having similar problems. -
Also check your touchpad cable connectors and see how crappy they are.
Touch pad trouble (yes I know) Another one?!
