My G73JW still has a lame trackpad, with suddenly unresponsive tracking (all gestures and other crap disabled). Then, after waiting a minute or two, it'll pick up again. Has this been fixed via better drivers (ASUS website hasn't been updated since mid 2010, and I installed newer synaptics stuff) or newer Beta firmware (I think I'm running 212).

Or, is this just a hardware fix that I will need to RMA.

NOPE. It is hardware issue. You have to send it in!

Nope. And everyone who claims it has have suffered brain damage due to the severe traumatic experience of using this awful trackpad :D

Does an RMA fix the issue? Anyone definitively have the problems and then RMA it and get back something better?

RMA won't help cuz i don't think the Asus guys remove the silver foil. Disassemble the laptop and remove the silver static protector from below the trackpad and it will work like a charm.

Actually, i'm pretty sure Chastity mentioned before that it was now standard procedure at Asus to remove the foil.

I think she said it'll be a while before it is, and that it only happens if she personally overlooks the RMA. But I've already removed the foil, and it works much better, don't get me wrong, but still spazzes out once in a while. It's temporary, kind of like the wedge fix. For me, at least.

Flashing the BIOS up to 203 seems to have taken care of things for me (so far over these past few days there have been zero issues).

Removing the foil should be the very last thing to do after attempting software remedies - it was designed to be there by engineers and removing it doesn't seem to fix the problem entirely as some people have reported.
