Well after running monitors and seeing temperatures on my gpu rise slowly over the past few months (August 2010) to 65C idle and 98C on load i decided to take the plunge and repaste and clean fan vents on Monday night, (21st feb). I am by no means a certified technician but i've been around computers long enough to know more than the basics so i grounded myself off, did everything step by step on the biotech video but now i have a bit of an issue. After mounting everything back up the power button did nothing, also no indicator lights when plugged into A/C. I really thought the motherboard got shorted but just to confirm i reopened, took out the gpu and powered up and everything came back on....plugged and mounted card back up and same thing...no power. I was very careful with the card so i have very high doubt that it was damaged in the process but just to be sure, is there anything that would have maybe grounded off or any little thing that could have happened to cause this anomaly because I "think" if it was just the card giving problems then the computer would be on but just have either no or a messed up display. Someone get back to me please![]()

I had somehow the same.
When I put the stuff together the wlan cable get's stucked directly over the reset button. I pushed it away and everything works fine. -
I have heard that there is a reset button that could have wires laying on it that would cause it not to power on. I would check that first.

Oh wow thanks, i'll check that as soon as i get home from class, because when i took out the gpu and tested and motherboard came on everything was still dismounted so there was nothing pressing on anything, but just in case, any other thoughts from anyone else....honestly thanks alot guys

it's the wifi card wires, they're taped down, but you've gotta move them to repaste - and they almost always sit on top of the button if you don't move them out of the way.

2nd (or 4th) the wifi issue. It happened to me. If you didn't read it already the repaste guide in my signature may help you if the wifi wires aren't the problem. Also when looking at the wires be sure to look at the reset switch itself. My wires didn't look like they were on it, but upon closer inspection I saw they actually looped around and still hit it even though they didn't look like it at first. Hope that makes sense.

Also, check the blue wires which have the yellow tapes above them, check if the metal plating is still straight, it might have bent causing the computer not to start up. Gotta be extremely slow with those.

Now typing this reply on a spanking success of a 55C wire-obstructed free ASUS G73 =D thank you everyone!!!

55C is good, especially in a country close to the equator like Trinidad. What does furmark take you up to?
-
I've got 55 in canada
-
not sure, never ran any stress tests like that, heard it puts dangerous levels of pressure on a system and never really thought it would be necessary, i guess icould try it once a bit later this week
-
Furmark does take your GPU to 100% load but it won't hurt your computer. It is just a good way to simulate gaming on your laptop that allows you to see the temps rise up and eventually max out. Asus actually uses it to test the laptops although they don't like us to use it because it has made people realize the deficiencies in their laptops and results in RMAs. You shouldn't have a problem though since you repasted.

nice,i also used Arctic Silver because i couldn't find anywhere in the country that carries ICD7 but it should arrive in a few weeks so if temps give problems anytime again i'll have it on hand but i don't think it should (hope not)
