Hi,
I've tried searching for this problem, but have come up blank.
Just recently I've tried to either erase or format DVD RW discs. I have an ASUS G74S, with a Optiarc BD RW BD-5750H installed. The current drivers are the Windows ones from 2006. Oh, running Win 7 Professional.
Under Windows Explorer, I right click and select erase, and it starts, but then I get a message that says it can't finish erasing the disc. When I try to format it, I get: Windows was unable to complete the format.

I'm using Sony DVD+RW discs, and never had any trouble with them under Windows XP and external DVD burner. Have tried Memorex ones, and same issues.
Sorry this is a long post, but anything I can try?

Do you have a previous successful attempt on erasing disc contents with your optical drive. If it is, maybe try cleaning the lens with a decent lens cleaner (i.e. iKlear) and microfiber cloth.

Tried yet another brand and works fine.
