First of all great forum
Thanks for the guides on fresh install
I have just got myself a G73JW and fresh install of Win7 Pro and also followed the guides for what drivers etc to install ...
Just a question with the turbo boost, what do I install to make the button work? At the moment all that works in the lights for the screen and keyboard, turbo boost doesn't work?
-
You have to reinstall Power4Gear. x_x
-
is it worth it?
Will it really help with some gaming? -
personally, i think its worthless.
Some swear it gives a slight performance increase...but for me, if anything it slightly decrease performance. Most will agree..hence why you see GPU/CPU overclock threads instead of "wow turbo boost is the new OC" threads.
with that said, try it out for yourself and see..wont hurt anybody. -
I have it just for the sake of the button to work. I do not use it ever.

G73-JH -
No point in using Twin Turbo to be honest.
-
Guys, let's get the terminology right.
1) Asus Twin Turbo
2) Intel TurboBoost
Twin Turbo = bad, TurboBoost = good
With the non-extreme chips, it's pointless to overclock with the multiplier drop. Just use the Intel TurboBoost. -
I usually run with TwinTurbo. Will get back to you later on with benchmarks to verify whether it actually does nothing.
-
In my BIOS I have the "turbo" mode set and in Windows I have the Twin Turbo thing always on...
I don't really know what I'm getting/losing but it "sounds" cool so... Yeah, I'll just wait to see what you find -
The Turbo mode in the bios ,is reset by the software in Power for gear.
Click the turbo button in PFG and then check your bios. It will be reset.
I have seen some say they are running with Bios on and PFG set to off. It does not help to do this as you are resetting the Bios Turbo. -
If you bothered to search the forums, you will find the topic has been beaten to death. In a nutshell, TT enabled causes the Intel chip to drop to it's base multiplier of x12 (i720QM), so the FSB boost x12 is lower than the stock FSB x13. Ergo, lower performance.

The Turbo toggle in BIOS is NOT a toggle for Intel TurboBoost. It's only for Twin Turbo. Intel's implementation is all done automagically. I have Turbo disabled in BIOS and Intel's TB gadget app still reports elevated core clocks. Easiest way to see this is throw the laptop into High Performance mode.
-
As for the Bios setting, there's something in there that I have set to turbo... Should I not do this?
BTW - I am not on my G73 atm which is why I'm asking. -
Thanks, Chass -
If this is true, and Twin Turbo can result in performance drops, I shall disable it in the bios, and stop using it in Windows...
I wonder what else I could bind to that key... hmm... -
-
So is Twin Turbo really something that everyone views as a gimmick and not really worth using due to how it actually works?
-
Well, it's not really a gimmick, but it doesn't work well on the i5/i7 mobility due to Intel's own overclocking technology. On an C2Duo or Quad, it would work fine. Asus needs to come up with another gizmo for the i7.
-
-
I haven't done anything with it. Haven't come up with a reason to do so.
-
Personally I don't know what I'd use it for -
I saw a post in the forum where someone was saying they had on in the Bios and off in the software.
That is why I posted that. -
When I get the itch for Twin Turbo this is what I go to.
-
-
I've never used the twinturbo mode. Does it really make that much difference.
-
Every thing works fine and the games are really fast.
The thing you need to do is give it a try and see how it works with what you are running. I can say that it will not hurt anything so why not try?
This overclocks your ram and you can see the through put increase if you monitor it. Someone on here will give you more detail on this than I can as they have done all the benchmarks and the sort. -
i use the twin turbo button to show the guys "look at that i have a Turbo and i can overclock my cpu with only pressing one button" and when they see that firing icon that shows you Twinturbo mode enabled they say WOW
-
Also, benchmarks showed no difference. TwinTurbo off was about 0.5-2 FPS lower on average on Just Cause 2/ Dirt 2/ and Vantage benchmarks... -
Can someone show some screen caps for banchmarks with and without twin turbo on or off. Please.
-
I'd like that too, also with the use of Intel's Turbo automagic thingy *bows to Chastitys cleverness*

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...us-g73-benchmark-thread.html?highlight=OC+G73 would be a good start. Really folks, use the Search function.
Here's another: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...510195-g73-i7-720-oc.html?highlight=overclock -
Chastity thanks for the links but sometimes having overly long threads are hard to sift through, It would be nice if someone has done it to simply reposte it here, regardless of a sticky thread somewhere else. Plus I find the Banchmark thread completely useless , being everyone just posts 3dmark scores and rarely post relavent frame rate information about games or the sort. Im not interested in the 3d mark score at all, so simply put if someone could reposte that would be nice of them.

im sorry I didn't mean to crank chast, im super sick and I've been trying to find out if twin turbo is good or not.
-
Well, if you do not like the suggestions given, you are welcome to run your own benchmarks and games. I find when I play Dragon Age, I get higher FPS with TwinTurbo off and stock settings vs FSB overclocking.

Thanks Chastity, good find and interesting read.
