1-I have set my laptop to not shut of the screen when I close the lid, but it still does.
2-When I open the lid, the screen doesn't go back to full color for some reason. It looks sort of like 16-bit color, a lot of banding and shadows are black and green. I have to restart to fix it.
It isn't the GPU because I took screen shots of the problem, but after I restarted the laptop, the screen shot looked normal.

Usually, G73JH automatically shifts to 16-bit color when running on battery and on High (32-bit) when AC is plugged in.
Regarding your closing-the-lid problem, check your settings on Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings and look for the options set at "When I close the lid:" -

I closed and opened the lid. CCC's says I'm in 32bit mode, my eyes looking at a few in game screenshots tells be otherwise. There is an obvious difference, not even close. The shadows go from normal looking to blacks and dark greens blotches and other textures turn into simple colors. I'd give you a screen shot, but it will look normal... because it does fine until I close and open the lid.
Also, I've already set "When I close the lid" to "do nothing". The screen still shuts off.
... I guess my laptop doesn't seem to care about what I have to say on the matter. My laptop is just like...
This is so...odd. -
As for the 16-bit color, its probably Power4Gear setting it, should be able to change that in its settings, or perhaps you need to update it...if you dont have P4G then im at a loss :/

The screen will always blank/turn off when you close the lid. That's a hardware thing, you can't change it in software.

BTW, it was a driver issue. It must of corrupted a bit and the problem went bye-bye when I updated to 11.1a [from 10.10c].
Two ASUS G73JH-RBBX0 screen issues.
