Does anyone know how to do this with AMD GPU Clock Tool? Been searching the threads here and I only found that you use AMD GPU Clock Tool.

I set the voltage with AMD GPU Clock Tool but it doesnt change to 0.95V and stays at 1.15V

I restart the computer and see that the voltage is at 0.95V but when I downclock the 5870 the voltage goes back up to 1.15V

    Any suggestions?

Running on stock drivers and stock vBIOS and on 211 BIOS

Dark Nerd, I notice the same issue with mine, All stock video drivers and 209.. From what I have read, this is due to limitations within the Video BIOS. Until ASUS releases one that allows undervolting, or you go with Ziddy123's
    VBIOS fix

I do not think you can change the voltage with AMD Clock tool only.
Also, On mine I can set the clocks as low as 200/300, if I go lower than 200 my system locks up.

Are you on 10.6/10.7 maybe? I have noticed in my experiences that those driver do not let clock below 200/300. I just updated back to 10.7 after upgrading the BIOS to 211 and I can no longer downclock my GPU to 100/200 because if I do, the screen would just go black.

Ill be waiting for the new vBIOS release then so I could undervolt since maybe its not that far away from release.

Why not just down clock instead of undervolting it. Go as low as your system can handle. Then when your sure enough, edit your own vbios. My system handles the clocks pretty well. So i can drop from 705/1100 all the way down to 100/300.

How did you do that? the dropping from stock to 100/300

Is it because you softmodded yours?

I just used Amd gpu clock tool, clocked it up to 705/1100 (because i don't have overdrive if i used the softmod) then i down clocked to 100/300 directly. Never had gsod of any soft. Did it repeatedly a few times and it was stable. So i edited my own vbios. And about the drivers not allowing you to down clock, thats not true. I'm currently on a leaked 10.8 desktop drivers and it down clocks just fine. Previously was using 10.5a, 10.6, 10.7, 10.7a and now 10.8 leaked and it down clocks just fine.

well good for you, in my experiences the only driver that I could go as low as 100/200 was stock drivers while others would give me a black screen while doing so even when downclocking from stock to 100/200 directly

You can try dropping your clocks to something like 200/500 first. Give it a few seconds then clock it down to 100/200.

You can undervolt by going into power managment/ ex. where you would find the core parking settings. Go all the way to the bottom and there should be an ATI setting. If you change that to power save you will get .95v and your speeds will get reduced to 300/1000.

Dark_nerd I hate this waiting, I will join you and hope for the best!
I am on the driver that came with mine (stock) back in April for the GPU. Thanks for the info on upgrading if I have to go that route.

antisniperspy Thanks for the info, when, if you use that setting do you see better battery life for surfing, email... ?

Yes, I get about 30 - 40 mintues. One thing it does do is lower my 70C idle temps to about 55C. SO i run this unless im in a game.

Tell me about it. Sent a PM to Gary with all my temps and he said that the amd guys said that it was fine but my idles where a little high. I dont want to send it in because everything else works great. I have only taken apart one laptop before and it was a Dell Insprion 9300. It was not a fun time. So I dont want to take it apart. I called a microcenter near me and they said they dont work on asus laptops because they dont have a contract to do so. If my temps get any higher I just might have to do something about it.

Well I did that to try but still getting the black screen. Maybe it really is the driver thats preventing me from going down to lower clocks

Well, in the asus updates thread they told me that maybe asus wont do anything for the users like us that have high idle temps on stock clocks since it is within safe operating range as stated by AMD and this kinda blows. Maybe the GPU will break down after a year or two because of this. Gary should do something about it
