I've had this nagging problem for about 1 month and half now, Windows cannot update (Code 28 Error) and there are 3 base system devices and 1 unknown device that is yet to have a driver and run properly. Windows seems to be unstable and it has geniune issues. MS techs have varified that my copy of W7 OEM is legit and that I might have to uninstall and reinstall the OS. But if I can't find the correct drivers for my G50V-X1 running 64 bit W7 I might run into this problem again. It's 4 hardware devices that are definitely causing this problem. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Okay I've reinstalled Windows 7 and I think it a utilities that is causing this problem. The windows update is unable to update due to the service not running with no manually way to turn the service back even throug msc.exe or anything else. I found a link that HP notebook owners had a similar problem but HP helped by provided a fix utility. Can sombody please help? Thank You. Yes it does, buddy. Thanks for the post. It turns out that the error could be created via an issue with one to all of the asus utilities. Generic Key Function, ACPI (Chipset), Keyboard Filter, Atk Media, Power4Gear, Direct Console 2.0, IntelMatrixStorageManager (IMSM), Matrix Storage, Lifeframe 3.0, LogonIN. Who knows right? I hate that I will have to lose functions to have a trouble free Windows 7 64bit. :(

You guys have any idea of what these hardware ids are and what to download?

Thanks again for the reply Josea. I've had that driver in my data: partition folder since the first OS debacle install along with all the other Asus Utilities. I recommend people that do a clean install of Windows 7 to make sure that key is really activated manually in or face the consequences if they decide not to and do a bunch of updates and install Asus utilities prior literally bricking the OS and it's ability to maintain geniuty as well as being able to update. You literally can create a non-geniune corrupt OS that way.

I had a bunch of ricoh windows updates and the card slot worked fine but have since updated to the Asus ricoh drivers and happy to reports that my Device Manager is clean and reports no unknown devices or problems. I feel lucky. I've had this issue on this particular laptop for the 2 months and feel relieved to finally to have gotten it solved. Windows Update is fine and everything. Thank You
