Recently i have been experiencing an unusual problem with my g53sw that had previously been working perfectly. At random, either when in use or idling everything will stop responding, for instance if i were playing a mp3 the sound would completely stop, the web browser firefox would have the spinning *loading* mouse icon. For some odd reason i would still be able to move the mouse, but clicking does nothing, the same applies to the keyboard. The computer stays in this state for a few minutes until it blue screens with stop 0x000000f4. For some odd reason i cannot find any crash dumps of it.

I have checked various things so far, temps are always around the 30-50c range, Intel SSD toolbox suggests the drive is in working condition (Intel 510 boot drive) only things left to test are memtest/factory reset.

It's still under warranty, but i am hoping it is not a hardware issue that would force me to have to send it back for repairs.

I actually had a similar issue with my desktop that turned out to be memory. When I replaced that, it solved the problem. Run memtest and let us know what results you get.

Might as well test it now, if it does turn out to be memory, guess i'll have no choice but to send it back. Good thing i still have a memtest86 cd from back when my desktop had a memory issue.

Running memtest, that was very unusual, it took about 3-4 tries before it actually started running, the first few attempts the memtest screen flashed for a second and the pc just reboots.

Maybe the computer gods do not want me to have a computer, my desktop had a memory issue that needed fixing (now working just fine though), my other laptop has a unresolved issue that causes nonstop freezing, and now this.

If memtest does not pick up any errors, i'll probably try safe mode or the reset (there is literally nothing else on the computer except drivers, updates, hd benchmark, and temperature monitoring software)

Tbh i'd be surprised if it was a memory issue though, with my desktop the issues appeared the instant i started it, but with the laptop, it took a couple weeks before showing up, although it did have a single incident of just freezing outright.

If anything it passed the microsoft memory test, not that it has ever helped, passed the memory for my desktop when memtest reported 2-3 errors.

well something interesting, i think the person in this thread has the exact same issue as me, but on a desktop

need to test what he did and see if it'll fix it.

=/ unfortunatly I haven't been able to rely on memtest for a while now. I've had bad ram before and issues went away when I replaced it, but memtest never gave me any error readings.

IS the test for RAM that is built into windows 7 reliable? Or is there a better third party software available?

You can also test with OCCT.

Memtest showed zero errors after 4 passes, so i think i'm going to rule that out, personal experience showed that the windows memory tester is kind of useless, i had bad ram before on my desktop, time after time the windows tester showed no errors while memtest showed a few each run.

Yep, i think i have a pretty good idea what the problem is now.
No problems with memtest, but now i can't even boot properly.
I get "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device", regardless of how i prioritize the boot sequence, same result with default settings.

Oh well, can't even boot anymore off that drive, although it's detected in the bios. Saves me the trouble of testing with a fresh install i guess.

Yep, cannot even install windows onto the ssd anymore after reformatting it, it states that the hard drive is failing, i can install it onto the data hdd though.

2 laptops, 2 bad ssd's must just be my luck...

Oh well, fortunately xotic is covering shipping both ways for repairs.
